Why not just wait for the MATB1?

Don't know what that is but probably best to just wait until September and the troll goes back to school.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Most doctors won't certify a pregnancy until you are past the three month stage. You are only just pregnant as others have said.

With the mental health problems you describe and if you are 17, you should still be assessed as vulnerable and of priority need.

I strongly suggest you get medical confirmation of THESE causes of vulnerability and apply for help on that basis for now.

Please try and get some proper advice.., there are specialist charities and specialist forums that can advise much better than on here. I did suggest most of this in your last thread. Try and focus on what is acheivable right now. Proving your pregnancy is not urgent and is left til later for good reason.

Very few GP's ever "prove" a pregnancy now, women are expected to buy their own pregnancy tests (generic tests are available very cheaply from pharmacies, it doesn't have to be an overpriced Clearblue one!) then the GP will email or fax a referral letter to the hospital midwives. The hospital will then order a scan and make a booking appointment with the local midwives either at the hospital or a local clinic. You'd be surprised at how many women turn up at their dating scan, only to find that they're not (and sometimes, have never been) pregnant. You'll be given a set of notes at the booking appointment, these can be used as documentation to give to the council.

The pregnancy is usually only "proved" by a professional at the first scan which is normally around 12 weeks. Some women will have scans earlier, if they have bleeding for example. These early scans will only confirm a "viable foetus" (and contains such charming phrases as "egg sac and yolk") and will give an EDD, which is then confirmed at the 12 week dating scan.

A MATB1 is given after 20 weeks pregnancy.

And housing is usually only allocated after the birth. Good luck with getting a two-bedroomed place, round here most people are given a one-bed at most....even with two kids.

Doesn't the dating usually happen before the pregnancy?

Just in the extreme case this is real and you are pregnant.

You can get a urine test if you ask the GP. When I fell pregnant despite 4 home tests didn't quite believe it booked in GP same day (son almost 6 now!) He sent me to waiting room for half hour and I saw a nurse who done a urine dip on my request.

Next - children don't mean you'll get a council home. In my area (south west) they now fund a deposit for private rent which you then pay back through benefits or wages. Or temp accommodation, 4 years back I had a friend who spent 2 years in a mum & baby place without the dad as men were allowed to visit but not stay. She got a council home just before they changed it.

Now it's private rent and on the chance you do get a council, it's probably a 1 bed. Kids can sleep in with parents until they are 7 or something. Then they are classed as needing their own room and each room can sleep up to 3 same sex children. And different sexes share until they are 10.

This is a change I'm glad to see. Not because I'm against council homes or people having babies, but because I hate how many people have children just to leave their parents homes and then it's the children that suffer.

If people want babies they should be fully able to fund them off their own backs. Children are a luxury! Everyone has the right to be a parent but not always the ability to do so. If you can't look after yourself (have a home, job, savings, etc) then you shouldn't have a baby.

At my doctors practice you don't need to see a GP if you have a positive pregnancy test and no other health concerns- they encourage you just to book straight in with the midwife clinic. Makes sense to me as it skips out an expensive middle step!

May as well, as even then your priority won't change. You will have to wait until you are nearly due before they reassess your housing need.

GPs don't test for pregnancy usually as home tests are more accurate. In many areas you now self refer to the midwife and don't even see the GP first. So the first time the medical professionals are sure there is a pregnancy is at the dating scan (around 11 to 13 weeks into the pregnancy). The official confirmation of pregnancy is the MATB1 certificate which you can only receive after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

I would check what the GP is actually going to write before you pay for a letter. It might be full of caveats and therefore not be the proof the council require.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

The only way a GP could absolutely assure of a pregnancy is if he did a blood test. Otherwise, it would be nothing more than they writing to say that you told them you were pregnant, which of course you can do yourself.

I do not believe that a doctor would be prepared to provide medical confirmation of a pregnancy for the purpose of gaining accommodation without getting medical evidence.
  • As I have previously mentioned, I'm more that willing to wait for the MATB1 but that's not until 20+ weeks and my council have asked for something so I'm trying my best to provide it.

GPs don't do their own urine samples to test for pregnancy anymore, they go by what you say. With my twins, I was just refered to the midwife etc and was given all my booking documents etc (which council class as proof of pregnancy), without even having to prove pregnancy. If I was lying back then and wanted accommodation, I would've had the relative documentation to prove I was pregnant.

Again, I'm not bothered about being given a 'two bed', it's just that the council have asked for proof of PG and I'm trying to accommodate what they've asked of me. If I said "Oh don't worry about it, I'll wait for my MAT form", I'm sure I'd get a few raised eyebrows by them.
