Proof of pregnancy wanted by the council

They don't do urine tests as standard anymore as the home tests are so sensitive nowadays. I can understand a gp being a bit reluctant to write at such an early stage though. As a parent with biological children, in my experience a GP always takes a urine sample to confirm pregnancy. Did you get all your information books etc?Determined to save and not squander!

This was 12 days ago...make your own minds up but I would not waste your time giving advice as too many inconsistencies.

My surgery charges £10 per letter required, regardless of what it is needed for. Must be up to the individual surgery how much they charge, which would explain why the council felt it unfair (as yours seems to be one of the higher charges.)
Would make more sense if the length of letter required (and consequently time taken to write it) were used to calculate the cost rather than a flat fee, but there we go.0 -
I am not sure whether a doctor would really sign a letter to confirm you were pregnant and when you were due just because you show him a positive pregnancy test and tell him you are, I expect you will be required to perform one at the surgery before he signs anything
Once they have the letter the council will know how long B&B or hostel accommodation was an option for...unless your local council has a mass off empty properties it is likely to be temp accommodation of some sort0 -
Anyone could say they were pregnant to get priority housing so yes they will need proof.0

Also claiming ESA, despite being too young to claim it. Moved house last week and recently quit her job too, quite an imaginary life.0 -

I know, I wasn't having a go at you, just showing my thoughts on the matter! It's a bit of a silly discussion overall, and should probably be deleted I reckon.
Well it's either a genuine sponger or just the fact these threads won't stop till beginning of september....0 -
The letter is not provided on the NHS. The GP is providing it as a private service, so can charge what he likes.
Must say I agree with those raising doubts about the wisdom of a pregnancy where the mother is homeless, unwell, and whose own mother considers her a risk to young children.
As to not all pregancies being planned:
* in this day and age, there's little excuse for unplanned pregnancies
* on the odd occassion where a woman gets carried away, there's the morning after pill
* where there's a accident (yes, I know, no contraceptive is 100% reliable) there's still another option for which one should weigh up the pros and cons (see above!)
None of our business? By posting details on a public forum it becomes of interest to other forumites0 -
Why not just wait for the MATB1?0
