    According to infoworld.com:-
Windows sets mobile broadband networks to metered by default.

I've just had a look, and my MiFi was showing as "Set as metered connection - Off"

ETA: Just checked my tablet, and that too was showing as "Set as metered connection - Off".

Now going to check my Laptop, and I'm willing to bet that's set the same.

Whilst I agree with a good debate on technical aspects, I don't think we gain any knowledge from people trawling the Internet for silly pictures
It might be funny the first time, but when most of their posts are mostly disruptive, you have to call an spade a spade.
It's ok to have a bit of banter, as no one likes a humourless poster, but when the OP has to trawl through post after post of rubbish to get to the salient info, then the children need reining in.
Hence the OP wanting to have the whole post scrapped, as it was becoming useless.

As to prickly...I communicate with friends in much the same way. It might come over harshly online to someone who easily takes offence. But if my intention was to offend, I wouldn't be helping them in the first place.:)

Actually in person, I'm ludicrously pleasant. :) My girlfriend is the prickly one.

    Hi Nifty

I take your point. The value of this forum, as I see it, is the high level of technical knowledge that posters like yourself possess, allied to a willingness to share that knowledge, with other people. Some people on here are willing to go that extra mile, to help strangers.

As a person, who was once ahead of the game, but now finds the computer world quite bewildering, this forum is for me a life-saver. I would never have managed to keep up with Windows 10 without the numerous, informative threads on here.

As someone who likes to get to the heart of the matter quickly I can see how too much banter is off-putting to you and creates some frustration.

I think it is important for people who take the trouble to share their knowledge to know that they are helping a lot of people who do not actually contribute to a thread but who are there on the side-lines absorbing it all and learning.
  • This is strange.

Just checked my laptop, and the option to set as a metered connection (along with the "Make this PC discoverable" option) is missing

Everything that should be above "Properties" isn't there.

That because it's connected via WiFi...so it doesn't know it's a mobile broadband connection....

..... currently running W10 Home with 'classic shell' (Ver 4.3.0)
    Settings/system/about says:-
    Version 511
    OS Build 10586.494

How do I know whether I have changed to the 'anniversary' edition?

Version 1607 is the anniversary version
So I would say that you have not yet updated
The size of the update (over 3Gb) makes it pretty obvious when you receive it !!

So, apart from it being a different version number and a big file size - what difference will it make ( I have never used cortana or edge)

    :)
  • Had to rollback my w10 anniversary update, as the internet was very ropey afterward.
    2 days of slow/quick/slow internet.
I saw a few reports that w10 can alter internet connections, so rolled back, and everything back to normal now...phew
Just got to hold back anniversary update for a while.

I bought this laptop April 2014 with Windows 8 on it. I upgraded to Windows 8.1.

I upgraded to Windows 10 approx 25th July. I haven't had the Anniversary Update yet.

Just checked Control Panel, System & Security and under Backup & Restore it says Windows 7. I've never had Windows 7.

Why doesn't it say Windows 8.1?

    It's confusing labelling.

What it's trying to say is that the version of the Backup and Restore tool dates from Windows 7, and hasn't really been updated since then. I think it's because a lot of users may have migrated from Windows 7 and may have backups of data they want to restore.

It won't say Windows 8.1 because that Backup and Restore tool was actually deleted in Windows 8.1. But brought back in Windows 10. (I'm not entirely sure why they had a change of heart.)

You probably won't be offered the Anniversary Update until at least a month after you upgraded to Windows 10, because the rollback option is still available (unless you deleted the files) and it can't store a double-rollback on one computer.

If you roll back to Win 7, can you go back to Win 10 free of charge when they stop supporting Win 7?
