MS are changing Win 10 - from tomorrow !
The "anniversary update" will stop anyone from even disabling Cortana - let alone uninstalling it..........
Also Edge will become the default browser (probably a preliminary to blocking IE)
The update itself is approx. 3.5Gb in size and we have no choice whether we want it or not !
Already Skype and Xbox are default apps - we can't even be trusted NOT to install these (whether we want them or not)

!! AND SO IT BEGINS !!

It will be fairly easy to disable Cortana if you are prepared to make a minor registry edit. You don't have to use Edge or Skype. Use what you want! Stay with XP if you prefer.

Reluctantly - I installed Win 10 - 6 months ago but am uncertain whether to stay with it or not
Yesterday - I had to rebuild my laptop due to a (nother) corruption - I used Win 10's built in recovery, which surprisingly reinstalled the original OS (8.1) rather than 10 ... I hate Win 8.1 even more than Win 10 - so had to download the Win10 iso and reinstall from that............

I'm not overly pleased about that big download - I'll need to look at the options to limit updates on WiFi for the little laptop I've left at the caravan as that is running on a 4G MiFi.

I'm assuming OOSU10 or an update of it will scupper any spying extension.

What it really boils down to is if you don't like it find an alternative OS.

Ah Microsoft they never change, so much for deltas. A classic but still applies to W10, no one does bloatware like Microsoft.....

Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

It was already the default browser in Windows 10. What has changed?

Set your MiFi as a Metered Connection - that should do help.

The big download has the merit that by reinstalling the whole OS, you no longer get an ever-increasing accumulation of updates taking up disk space, as in Windows 7.

But I admit it's not great for people who have limited data allowances or slow connections - in that situation I'd wait for the ISO and download that.

It will be impossible to disable it as well !!
Similarly Cortana, Xbox, Skype, Phone etc etc
and be prepared for pop-up adverts and advert tiles (unless you use classic shell)
until someone comes up with a fix ?

What about those who purchased W10 - say with a new PC - will the anniversary update apply? I sort out some of my elderly neighbours and one in particular will be on the phone the instant anything changes. When he was on previous O/S's I set his updates to manual but for W10 I set it to auto. Perhaps I'll nip round and change to manual.

I'm not sure that's even possible with W10.
