  • Glad things are going well! Maybe you could have done the ppi yourself, but you tried and paying the ppi company £1500 is probably good value for avoiding the extra stress. After all, you might have given up and gotten nothing, but now you have a substantial EF :)

  • Turns out that I have to pay tax on some of that payout as well, which is another £350, but never mind. Still happy that I've made something out of nothing except a silly mistake I made as a 21 year old :j I've decided to allocate some of it to getting dd a new bed which she is a bit desperate for (but that is her Christmas present) and I will also use some of it to pay off the holiday (which hopefully I'll get £ back for in presents when the big birthday ticks round). The rest will be safely stashed away.
Nice day out with ds, bestie and her ds today while dd went out on her big shopping day with her girlie friends. It all went well and she even came home on the bus - when did my little girl get all grown up???? Anyway, us four went out for all you can eat Chinese buffet lunch, plus I paid £38 of loose change into the bank (to go into EF). Also got a couple of reduced items in D!sney shop to put away for my niece's birthday. And a little look about in Primarni as well (got the kids Christmas nightwear).
Also found out what was wrong with dh. It was something that seems like a huge deal to him but in reality is something very small - a little issue at work that he's resolved but is still getting to him. He seems a lot better now he's gotten it off his chest at least.
I've also gotten properly stuck into the NST September challenge today and I've done a couple of things from there - written a Christmas and birthday gift list for the rest of the year. Pleased to see that a lot of it is already done and underway... :D
Also contacted my sister. We're not in touch as often as we should be but I thought I had better make the effort. So I did - turns out she has her PhD Viva in a couple of weeks so I'm pleased I got in touch with her. Need to find her something nice as a little congratulations present for becoming the second Dr in our family. I hope our parents are proud of us. :o

Great news about the PPI refund! I must confess I never paid the tax on mine - oops - but that's still a great amount! Seems crazy to be thinking about Xmas already but it's creeping up on us!!
  • Morning all :hello:
It's the last proper day of the hols today :( - back to work on Monday. I don't know how I'm going to manage that half six alarm on Monday morning. I want to have a fairly relaxing day today and I've spent the morning so far working through my annoying jobs list - got lots of little fiddly things done. Scanning and emailing some documents, sorting through the pile of junk in the kitchen, setting up dd's lunch account online etc.
I just really want to spend today sitting on my backside watching telly and knitting or crocheting. Think that's what I'll do then :D
  • Hi Cat, could you PM me the name of the PPI people as I haven't managed to get very far with mine or Mr Light apart for one small payout. Maybe they will work harder knowing that they will receive a cut of the action.
"These things take time but I know that I'm the most inept that ever stepped"
  • Ha :rotfl: I said I had a relaxing day planned yesterday - so how come I was non stop between 12 and 7? I have no idea... I think that I just always underestimate how long some things take to do as I always seem to think that I can get more done than I actually can. Took ds out for a walk and he talked his way into lunch out. The service was appalling though and I won't be heading back there in any hurry. Then went to a certain sports store as I needed to replace my training trousers before heading home. Then after I'd swapped the washing over I had to take ds out to footy training and it was half seven before I even knew it.
Today should be more relaxing... Famous last words. I'm normally up and out at 7am on a Saturday for training, but my trainer is poorly so I got a lie in, and have still woken up feeling shattered. I have a suspicion that I may be a bit anaemic. I have no idea how as I love red meat but a friend taught me a trick about looking into the eyes and I think it may be the case. I'm going to get some supplements as I still can't get a doctor's appointment and I'm willing to give it a go in order to feel better. It can't do any harm as long as I don't take too much. It's also making me think about addressing my diet. I don't mind a varied diet but I generally can't be bothered with a lot of food prep so it can get a bit rubbish sometimes. I think I need to push food further up the priority list.
We have loads of stuff in that needs using up so I'm going to do what legomum does and have a use up box, and I'm going to aim to work my way through that. Being the ultimate lazy means that I already have quite a lot of freezer space taken up with veggies so it should be fairly straightforward. Onwards!
  • I'm getting the Sunday evening blues
I know I should be more grateful for my extended time off work but I am tired... Still. I have ordered a supplement online and I've also managed to get a doctor's appointment!!!! OK it's on the 16th of September but it's at 5pm so no time off work required. I've stupidly been googling my symptoms and scaring myself :p I just hate going to the doctors so much because they see a fat person and blame everything on weight. :( Anyway, it's booked now, and we'll see how I go between now and then.
So, I got my day indoors yesterday - barely moved off the sofa all day. It was lovely just sitting and knitting and crocheting really. I wish I could have more days like that. Ah well. It rained all day so I had to dig the airer out and dry indoors.
I've done my tutoring today and also a bit of shopping for some random items we needed, like light bulbs and insoles for dd shoes (her and her skinny feet). Also wombled a couple of things from my mam, who is moving house tomorrow. The kids each got a chest of drawers for their bedrooms and I bagged a new rug for our living room floor (she only bought it 2 years ago and it's spent the entire time in her spare bedroom). Spent time in the kitchen and have used up some lemon and thyme stock pots and some dried noodles, so mission use-it-up is going ok.
I've been in the bath and am all sorted for tomorrow so all that remains is for me to relax a bit in front of the telly and have an early night. I'll be back on tomorrow evening at some point.

  • Evening all :hello:
Well I've survived the first day back - full of meetings. I'm prepped for the kids returning tomorrow and I've got my own kids ready to go. DD starts comp tomorrow and I really can't believe that I have a daughter of that age already. Time seems to have flown over to be honest. DS is almost 8...
It was nice to be back with a full department again after the full year last year on 3.5 teachers. Mind you, the pressure is already on for achievement this year. I've been complaining about our now Year 11 since they were in Year 9 so I think we have our work cut out. I'm sure it won't take long to feel as though I've never been away.
I had to come straight home from work because the kids were on their own from 12 when dh went to work, and although I knew they'd be ok I was still worried and had my 'bad mother' head on. Of course everything was fine, and the new jumping pad for the trampoline had arrived (the trampoline is 5 years old, and one of them jumped a hole in it last week). So they wanted that on quite quickly. It's not the easiest of jobs to remove a trampoline pad with 64 springs, then reattach a new one. It requires quite a lot of strength to move those springs, and needless to say I have done no other exercise today, and I have also got some lovely blisters and friction burns on the palms of my hands now.
Thankfully we had leftovers from yesterday's chicken and noodle concoction so dinner was fairly straightforward, but then I had to do the lesson planning that I would have done at work if I'd been able to stay.
I've been in the shower and now settling down for an hour of knitting or crochet before bed.
Just before I go though, I have a confession to make. I have found a gardener. :j It's going to cost me £20 a fortnight but I really just don't care at all. It's worth every single penny if I don't have to think about it. He starts tomorrow, and warned me not to expect miracles straight away because it needs lots of work :rotfl:
  • CCL It makes sense to me to get a gardener. You work full time, you're DH carer and a parent, you're very time poor so someone else managing the garden for a small out lay will help ease any guilt you have about the garden.
