Help. Missus wants an Evoque

The wife has a BMW 1-series. It's about five years old and she bought it on PCP which included servicing. She paid off the balloon payment and then was surprised by the servicing costs when she took it in recently. The car itself probably isn't worth much due to scrapes here and there. She is rubbish at parking.
But she now wants to upgrade to a 4x4, specifically a Range Rover and she's looking at an Evoque. Whilst she is in a position to buy on on PCP, I'm concerned she'll either struggle to drive it or look after it properly. But her heart's set on one and the prospect of waiting for a testdrive isn't going to sway things.
What I'm looking at is a way of being able to give the car back if she's not happy after say six months. Should we be looking at leasing, PCP, HP or something else? Any advice would be welcome.

Rent one for a weekend.
My Aunt has one and she loves it. Hers has cameras all round so she can park it easily.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
Why would she struggle to drive it?0

Buying a car twice the size might not be the best idea.0 -
If you think the BMW servicing is costly just wait til you get a LandRover bill.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I assumed the scrapes were from the rubbish parking.
If she is having that many bumps and scrapes whilst actually driving then I don't think she should be on the roads at all. :eek:0 -
Evoque has very good residuals. The biggest motoring cost is depreciation.
Servicing costs and fuel costs are not that high.
Especially if you stick to a FWD version.
Land Rover Assist provides a replacement vehicle when your one breaks down.
Though the Evoque seems to have a decent reputation for reliability.
If you extend the warranty at the end of the 3 years you can still get Land Rover Assist.
I would advise going for the park assist and as many cameras and sensors as available and stick with smaller wheels.0 -
Thanks for the advice. The missus is fine when driving on the road, or at least she is when I'm with her. The scrapes are round the front and back bumpers. How she got these, I'm not sure. The car has front and rear parking sensors!
I was looking at lease deals but obviously concerned about body damage. Parking cameras sound like a good idea. I've got a reversing camera on my golf.0 -
Good residuals maybe, but that reminds me of an article on one of the car mags where they say buy a Mercedes because it only loses 20% over 3 or 5 years instead of 33% of various other cars.
What they failed to spot was that 20% of the Mercedes price meant you could buy a cheap Lada and scrap it after 5 years and still have money left over.
The Mercedes may only lose 20% but that 20% was a greater vale than the others cars cost.
What does the Evoque lose over 3 years £4k a year?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Sorry. I've been told a million times not to exaggerate.0
