  • Thank you. Much appreciated. I love the leaf from the driving aspect its such a lovely car. We have charged at home as in trailed the cable accross the pavement but we are a terrace so parking outside our house is rare! Another complication and fustration.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience you've had with the Leaf and no home charging. I have to say without access to home charging I don't think ANY electric car is manageable, not even Tesla Model S/X. One of the things I love about my Leaf is the ability to charge at home overnight and not having to worry about going out of my way to find a petrol station.

I doubt very much your get much progress from Nissan in regards to 'mis-selling'. In summer the real life range isn't far off 100 miles, but if you havent got access to a reliable home/destination charger it means your can never really use all the range because you have to keep 10-20 miles spare to find a charger.

The problem with the Nissan Leaf PCP finance deals is they are so back-loaded (High final payment), they are essentially like lease deals. So very hard/expensive to exit. I have heard if you phone up RCI (Nissan's finance company) they will take the car back providing you pay off the remaining monthly payments (So £151x15 in your case).

Unfortunately there is really no other way out of the deal. Leaf used prices are really low partly because of these cheap new PCP deal.

Hope you can find a decent solution to your problem.....People have been known to trail the charging cable across the payment. It's not entirely clear the which way the law will come down on you if some one tripped on the cable.

  • Thanks all in your time and replies. Ultimately this is our fault we are not trying to pass the buck but after contacting RCI re paying off the outstanding finance we did feel Nissan have a duty of care and yes after reading alot of your comments its pointless and unregulated etc etc.
We are proactive, we due charge at home via trailing a cable when we can, 4 hours of this gives us 30-40% extra. I take the leaf to meadowhall which has the only supercharger which takes 40 mins. I've even left it on my parents driveway to charge. There are ways and means and we do get by but it's impacting on life so much hence this conversation.
We did drive round the pod points before we bought to see where they all were, we have bought a charging cable to access more points.
What doesnt help is that we both work out of city so we are having to charge everyday.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and no we should never have bought it. Nissan should IMO have been more honest and cared about the customer and not just the sale.

EV with a much larger battery than your current Leaf is coming over the next few years. Tesla are pushing 100kWh already (Your Leaf has 20kWh of usable battery), their Superchargers are now been upgraded to push 145KWH so will re-charge the whole battery in less than 1 hr (or re-charge the 80% battery of a Leaf in about 10 minutes, battery chemistry/heat allowing). But off street charging needs to be sorted for those people living in dense urban zones with no off road parking.

One day I hope the UK government will invest in public EV charging infrastructure like Norway has.
