so if someone is trying to claim for a chip that in all probability was already there and they know this in my opinion, why would i entertain anything they say being the truth?0

Incredible. Let me ask the majority of people on this thread a question, do you watch your child every minute of the day? I didn't think so, so wind your necks in a little and be realistic.
You all seem to be suggesting the OP should have told his son not to throw stones at cars. How on earth do you think to tell a child that without it happening first? They need to do wrong to learn from their mistakes and learn right from wrong.
If there is damage on the car, the OP has no responsibility to pay for it. Morally, that's another question and that comes down to whether the OP believes his child caused the damage or the two people are chancing it because they saw it happen and think it's an easy way to make some money (which is potentially the case if they have submitted this to a court already, fear tactics).
I think some of you need to chill out a little. I bet your children have done things they shouldn't have without you seeing.0
