So two different people are saying your 4 year old has damaged their car. Why would they lie? It would be an odd thing to come up with a plan to blame him if they didn't see it.

How about you take some responsibility for your kid and take the opportunity to teach it right from wrong ie don't throw stones.

A windscreen can cost that amount you could even run it through autoglass or auto windscreens to see the price they quote.

Why should someone else be at a loss because of a badly behaved brat.

He's below the age of criminal responsibility.

Clearly, the OP thinks that extends to parental responsibility.

"Let him who has no sin cast the first stone" sprang to mind .. show me a perfect four year old however close you watch them ....

It's happened, it's been established that the child is below the age of criminal responsibility. When a stone is thrown up by a vehicle in front, what happens? I suggest the same in this situation - let the insurance company take care of it, if there is an excess to pay the OP can decide whether to make a contribution or not based on their moral conscience - it's for them to decide.

I saw a 5 year old boy put a 50p size chip in a car windscreen, with nothing more than a bit of that god awful golden coloured gravel, it's surprisingly easy to do.

Kids should learn from a very early age that actions have consequences, otherwise in 10-20 years time this country is going to go to sh*t.

I would be mortified if this was my son!! He's 5 but he knows we do not touch or go near other peoples cars. He also knows if damage occurs to a car because of him, mum and dad have to pay for it.

If you didn't see him throwing the stones then you've no idea how many, how big, how hard or even how long he was throwing them for.

It's possible he did chip the windscreen. I once saw a very young child knock a windmirror off with a football.

Reverse it - if it was your car (assuming you drive) and a kid put a dink in it, would you be ok with that, or would you want it fixed?

ermm nope 1 person said they saw him throwing stones and tried to claim for a chip that almost certainly could't have been caused by him, then a friend of the person tried to claim that his car had been hit too, i'm not saying it wasn't him, i'm saying i'm unsure if it was him and if i have doubt then why would i fork out, in the hands of the court now, if they say i have to pay i will pay, also don't call my kid a brat you know nothing of him other than this possible incident

i simply asked legally where i stand, if it was beyond doubt i would pay up but my son was not unattended for any great length of time to cause the amount of damge he's accused of in my opinion he is 10 feet away you show me a 4 year old who can hit a windscreen with that repeated accuracy in the small timeframe where i didn't have him strapped to my body!!

Hit it repeatedly, how many chips are there?

You didn't see him do it, but someone else did, are you saying they're telling lies?

Just face facts, you weren't watching him were you?

i have no idea how many, how big how hard or how long he was throwing them for?, i also have no idea if he was throwing them, if he was then yes i do know how hard, how big and how long he would have been throwing them, not very hard (he is 4) Not very long (i was near enough to him and my eyes weren't far from what he was doing for very long on any given occasion) and not very big (the only stones near him were all smaller than 1CM, also i have contacted autoglass and a few other people i know in the trade who have told me that a chip of that magnitude from that distance and angle and size is extremely unlikely, windscreens are built to withstand a hell of a lot more

there were 3 people in close proximity to my child, myself, my wife and next door, i couldn't possibly say that i had my eye on him for every single second and i do know that these things can happen in a split second, kids are mischevious in general, but i have doubt, the size of the first chip and the amount of smaller dints, do not add up to me and others that i have spoken with, mostly the first chip and it's size and high improbability

You're in denial aren't you and you're looking to excuse your bad parenting.
