Why do we think we would get single market access without the 4 freedoms?

Will Germany cut off it's nose in spite? Unlikely.

Does Germany have enough influence (read sweeteners) to get 26 other nations to agree to those terms? And how does Germany balance between pleasing her export business and setting positive incentives for other nations to leave the EU?

"The European Union is to show its determination to make no concessions to the UK on Brexit terms by telling Switzerland it will lose access to the single market if it goes ahead with plans to impose controls on the free movement of EU citizens.

The Swiss-EU talks, under way for two years but now needing a solution possibly within weeks, throws up the exact same issues that will be raised in the UK’s exit talks – the degree to which the UK must accept free movement of the EU’s citizens as a price for access to the single market"

    fair enough
you judge in terms of people while I refer to consider actual actions and policies

Fair enough, what changes have you noticed in policies or actions?

I accept it is too early to say but I am not going to judge it on May's "Francis of Assisi" like sermon. At present we seem to have more right wing ministers. It seems a reasonable assumption that they will do more right wind things?
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

they might do things that are good for the people of this country even if you don't agree with them
I will wait and see what actions they actually take: words are cheap from from tories or labour.

Now's the perfect time to shift the Tories back towards the centre. Their current right leaning supporters aren't leaving even if she does come up with some more socially equitable policies that hurt them. At the same time labour has abandoned the centre and is lurching towards full blown socialism.
Clearly there's some gambles need taking in regards to Brexit, but the prize for a half decent deal here and a centre occupation is pretty much the annihalition of labour for a very long time.

So you favour running the nation based on whatever is the most politically beneficial policies (that is what led us to the divisive referendum)? Rather than what is in the best interests of the nation? My impression is that some (maybe Thrugelmir?) favour more austerity, while you favour less because it will destroy Labour?

The gambles you speak of will not matter to relatively wealthy people like Johnson and May, but they could ruin the lives of those of much lesser means.

As a leave voter I'd be pretty much ok with the 4 freedoms in an EEA/EFTA set up.

Plus all the multi-billion dollar trade deals we'll be allowed to do. Having a 1 in 28 say at the EU table isn't all its cracked up to be, whatever they (as a collective) want to do they'll do, with or without us agreeing so why not just accept that and crack on with the deals they've failed to do in 40 years?

Just because I make an assessment on what I think is the best course of action for the tories does not mean that I necessarily think it's the best course of action for society in general.
