I've said this elsewhere, but I do think May's first speech as PM was a masterstroke. She set herself out to firmly occupy the centre ground. It was designed to answer the concerns of those in middle England (and Wales)who voted for Brexit. Goodness only knows what is going on at Labour meantime. It seems to have gone totally over their heads.

What about concerns of the people who wanted to stay in, it was more or less 50/50 after all?

She campaigned to remain, so her position is already known to that section of the populace.

Who on earth votes for Diane Abbott?

I normally watch have I got news for you on my spin bike Sunday mornings. Had to turn it off when she was on.

MP for hackney. A borough with more than 40% of all homes as social. Same for Corybn MP for Islington also over 40% social homes.

Hope she is a better PM than campaigner.

I suspect so, distancing yourself from both [STRIKE]campaigns[/STRIKE] train wrecks in hindsight seems like the smart play. In fact, must have been, she's now prime minister!

I suspect she may have just followed the Cameron line, I am not even sure he was a genuine remainer. There was something seriously wrong with the Remain campaign. Just how difficult should it be to rubbish the £350 million a week claim?

I think part of the problem was rubbishing claims instead of making a positive argument.

Rubbishing £350 million and then Remain telling everyone "well it was more like £250/£150/£100 million" isn't really going to change perceptions of "that's a lot of money".

Absolutely - I don't know why no one put it into context. Even £1m would be a lot of money to me so of course even £100m sounds immense. If I later found out that it was only equal to a small amount of public spending then that would help the general public understand what it actually means and what we could really get for saving that money.

Our local hospital trust has a forecast deficit of £18 million this year. If asked on a local level where money should go. Answer seems pretty obvious.

I imagine she thinks that a few sincere sounding words that make her sound to the left of Cameron, will be enough to placate the Brexit supporting masses who were really voting for an end to austerity. I imagine she though that it worked for Thatcher and Cameron so why not for her. Meanwhile she appoints the most right wing Government for decades and starts spoon-feeding the electorate with nasty medicine.

Hope I am wrong but I have no reason to believe I am.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
