What's your beef with democracy?
People voted in a fair and democratic way, to leave the EU: they doubtlessly voted for many reasons.
Not a single person voted for 'recession'.
Your decription of them as unwashed masses is disrespectful : very Momentum and Corbyn like and insites hatred and intolerance of other peoples views.Originally Posted by mayonnaise View Post

Disappointing but sadly not unexpected from you.0 -

MEP's are elected via direct democracy
The Commissioners are appointed by the democratically elected governments of the member states.
The Council is the democratically elected leaders of the member states.
Whereas in the UK we have...
- the Commons, elected
- the Lords, unelected (and some still hereditary and not even appointed)
- The Bishops in the Lords (appointed by the Church, not the govt)
- the Queen, unelected
The EU is hands down more democratic than the UK.I guess, like the other poster, you only care about getting cheap ice cream.
Yep. I like cheap ice cream.
That and I care more about the long term economic prosperity of the UK than I worry about our membership of an organisation which we have a veto over who joins, we have a veto over major changes (like an army), we have opt-outs on joining their currency, we had an opt out agreed for ever closer union, and where 95% plus of all the 'laws' it makes are little more than trade regulations.
All this EU fear-mongering is delusional paranoid rubbish and always has been.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

To do absolutely nothing......they can't initiate legislation...that is done by the unelected Commissioners - who are themselves accountable to nobody.0 -

I know Hamish. But we had a vote and more people think like me than think like you. I want to live in a country that controls its own trade agreements, immigration and taxation, etc.
I want to live in a country where people can vote out politicians who ignore the electorates wishes on immigration, trade deals, taxes, etc etcHAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »All this EU fear-mongering is delusional paranoid rubbish and always has been.
Tbh I think a perfectly good argument could be mounted that today's negative figures were down to the Remain campaign and their Project Fear.0 -

If you follow data closely. The UK economy isn't in the greatest of shapes. Consumer spending fuelled by PPI rebates could only last so long. Company profitability has been heading downwards for many months now. Not just a UK problem either.0 -

The Commissioners are appointed by, and can be recalled by, the democratically elected governments.
The council of ministers (which is far and away the most influential part of the EU) consists of the democratically elected heads of government of the member states and they have the ability to 'yellow card' any piece of EU legislation and require changes.
The MEP's are elected directly and more democratically (via PR) than our own MP's via FPTP.
It's frankly bonkers to suggest the EU is not democratic.
