its certainly true that the 'remain' government tried to stack the deck against the 'leave' vote in every way possible.

Just love the idea that the government black ops during the referendum is somehow a justification for rerunning the referendum.
Presumably on the basic that the 'remain' government cheated by not providing that full facts.

It's a nice conspiracy theory especially given the sudden disappearance of Gove and Farage, the emasculation of Johnson and the coronation of May.

I recall reading that many of the EU Commission initiations are effectively the Commission reminding the EP of the need to make law arising from international agreements that the EU has signed.

    Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_initiative_(legislative) suggests that only 10% of proposed legislation comes from the Commission, but it does not cite a source for that statistic.

Well, the Commission is the "guardian" of the treaties, so I imagine quite of legistlation is around treaties and changes to treaties will be in their remit. And as the initiators and drafter of legislation the Commission will control what details goes forward for discussion - although it can be amended by other bodies.

The Commission also makes sure EU laws and regulations are enforced by member states and will use the ECJ if member states aren't compliant.

They are responsible for trade agreements and are the negotiators for TTIP.

They supervise the economic policy of those countries who have received bail outs.

Manages the EU budget - although in reality national governments manage a large part of it.

They decide competition policy in the EU, whether mergers can go ahead etc.

Initiating legislation is just one part of their remit.

And we get to vote for none of them :)

Absolutely correct, we get to vote for none of them, but they are appointed by our elected governments who we do get to vote for.

They are supposed to leave their national loyalties at the door and look after the interests of the EU when they are appointed.

    of course they do

a bit like the way the Scottish (SNP) MPs always vote for what is in the best interest of the UK rather than that of the SNP
