Now also available with Windows 7 updates.

Or you could simply turn off anything which concerns you.

    I prefer Windows 7 to 10 and Windows 10 to 8.

If you get 7 and are concerned that 10 might improve over time to the point where you might want it, then you can upgrade to store the entitlement for your PC and then revert.

I've I've upgraded 6 machines to 10 so far, all have been fine apart from the last one which runs like an absolute dog. Coincidentally, it's also the only one that wasn't a clean install.

If I do a clean install of 10 on it, will I be able to revert to 7 if there is no improvement? I have the 7 installation discs and key.

Yes. Briefly, you now have a Windows10 license as well as a Windows7 license - using one or other is fine.

That's another dodgy thing about windows 10. They can literally install anything and you don't get a choice. as I said. ..there's a reason they are trying to force it on everyone.

They do say there's no such thing as a free lunch. No wonder Microsoft are trying to force everyone to upgrade to that crap.
Well not wanting it is one thing. Not wanting it out of ignorance is another.

    My thoughts exactly. :)

Not if you're willing to compromise. It's all about finding the best system that works for you. It sounds like Windows 7 would best suit the OP.

It's a shame that proprietary operating systems bundle the UI with the underlying OS components. The simplicity of an XP-like interface with the Win7-like user-level elevations and filesystem/registry virtualisation (and other tweaks) would be pretty cool.

Good question. If you want control and are willing to work for it(!), Linux is great. But there are so many variants that it you might need to try half-a-dozen before you find one that "clicks".

I would recommend forgetting Windows completely and put on a linux based system instead . Easy and safe. The best one currently is Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon edition. For a review see http://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-mint-18-the-best-desktop-period/
