So i have to do a complete os install.

Assuming the awful Windows 10 is off the agenda. Which Windows os version would you reccomend? I know that some are universally known as being terrible.

I also heard a rumour that some of them are free these days. Is that true? A quick price check suggests that they vary massively. ..ie i saw windows 7 for both 20 € and 130 €

Windows 10 is the only one i would recommend .
Must be nearly a year of usage and i see no problems from a clean install .

Pretty much agree, I used Start10 to get the start button and bar in order and turned off the spyware, as stable as Windows 7 if there are the drivers for your gear.

Likewise here. I reverted to Windows 7 from Windows 8 which was awful but had regular issues with it for as long as it was installed.

I did a clean install of Windows 10 just after it was released and not had a single issue since.

Nothing posted by anyone else on this thread could lead you to that conclusion. I recommend that you don't bother with Windows at all if you're not willing to use W10, how about MVS/SP, I think I've got a reference book for it in a box somewhere?

I have just installed Win 10 on my desktop and daughter's 6 year old cheap laptop and we are both impressed(and surprised).

    Undoubtedly both machines are faster.

    Hi

I prefer Everest, although SafeStyle shout a lot about 55% off.

So should Microsoft do a BOGOF?

Spyware, keyloggers....not to mention the start up menu...or lack of it. May as well have been using a completely different system. W10 is the new W Millenium.

They do say there's no such thing as a free lunch. No wonder Microsoft are trying to force everyone to upgrade to that crap.
