Just what I have been saying. It is not misuse, it has become very clear now that apart from fisherjim, there is a complete lack of knowledge of Dementia and the extreme measures carers must take when in the company of someone with this illness
Castlepoint is a very large carpark and shopping complex, nutmeg drivers (and i'm being polite) all jockeying to get to the space nearest the shops. Sod the pedestrians. Not the safest place to walk about.0 -
And in this instance, care wasn't taken was it!!

Thanks for that info, the OP then was right to do what she did, lucky her dad did not wonder further with nutmeg drivers around0 -

How do you come to the conclusion that the OP was right in leaving a person with dementia to wander round a busy car park? My reading of attila's post was that it was at the very least careless of the OP to leave their father in the car when there was the possibility of them getting out of the car & wandering off in a place dangerous for pedestrians (as proved to be the case).0 -

That was my conclusion. I wish people would get to grips with this illness.
Doubtful she would have left him in the car if he did that normally, the illness can change the personality and behaviour of a person often within hours, it is not nice to watch so let us hope you and your family remain untouched0 -
I think nigelbb knows a lot more about this sort of condition than you realise.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Well, he would understand then, my experience is over 5 years watching my mother get worse, not even knowing who she today and her not knowing who I am.
I have done the same as the OP and as said in my post, when I take my mother for drive in my car, a carer from the home comes with us as I don't know from one minute to the next what she might do.
In future maybe the OP would consider doing the same0 -
You should not use a disabled bay only for the disabled person to sit in the car. Not what it's for. Different if you mean you shop and you Mum gets out of the car with the carer.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
