I acted as an unpaid carer for 10 years for my mother in law who now thinks I am her dad, don't lecture me with your usual feet first ramblings!

How rude, not your normal style ?

Not feet first ramblings ...... first hand experience which is current and I would have done the same as this lady

As you clearly have this illness in your family, one would have thought you would have been more sympathetic to her plight ??

Well.....the OP admits abusing the BB by parking in a disabled spot and popping into Asda whilst the BB holder sat in the car/went for a walk.
The OP stated that they bought "a sandwich for our lunch"; sounds like they were shopping on behalf of the BB holder.

    Your point being?

The BB was clearly being abused - they are not to facilitate easy or free parking for the driver to go shopping for the BB holder whilst the BB holder sits in the car or goes for a walk!

I was sympathetic with the OP to a point, as I stated it was a shame they didn't come for help before.

I have also administered my MIL's BB for years, got a £470 congestion charge fine cancelled when the idiots that administer it messed up.

I just get very annoyed at abuse, misuse, and with someone that does not take the time to get up to speed with the quite simple rules.

Quite why the OP needed a disabled spot to park in has not been explained either, if I took my MIL to B&Q to get her a new garden chair while she watched the shoppers from the car park, I would not park in a disabled bay blocking it for a wheel chair user, while I skipped in the store!

Quite. If the BB holder is sitting in the car then they are obstructing a disabled space that could legitimately be used by another BB holder who wants to park up & go into the shop. The OP should not have parked in a disabled space unless they were taking the BB holder into the shop with them (but then the BB would have stayed in the windscreen & this whole affair would not have occurred).

I suspect that this is a genuine misunderstanding by the OP as to how the disabled bays are intended to be used & indeed how the BB scheme is supposed to work outside of a private car park. While it might be very convenient it would not be acceptable to park on double yellow lines leaving the BB holder in the car even while popping into the chemist to collect a prescription for the BB holder.

I see no prospect of the OP winning an appeal & suggest that they pay up & put it down to a very expensive lesson. It's very unfortunate that the OP felt so aggrieved that they allowed this to go to court & with the benefit of hindsight we can say that if they had come here when they were ticket that the outcome could have been very different.

This is going totally off tangent, the OP clearly thought as she had a BB, she could park. Her reasoning is now history.
The fact is that her dad with dementia decided to do a walkabout, as dementia patients often do, taking with him the BB
Had he not done this, no ticket would have been issued as the BB would have been displayed.
She appealed which fell on deaf ears with the PPC, who are completely ignorant in their knowledge about Dementia and so it appears is the judge

What if part of the reason for being in the bay was (a) to leave them unattended as short a time as possible and (b) for his safety, should he get out of the car and wander off?

In any case, why does Devere deserve any money when the parking agent will have watched him leave and return?

You are so so right Herzios, a person with Dementia does not have to look ill but they are mentally disabled

You are looking for excuses. If the disabled bb holder was too demented to be left alone then he shouldn't have been!

What was to stop him interfering with the car brake/wandering into danger etc?

Your lack of knowledge would provoke such comments
