Return address is China!?

Hi All,
On the 19-06-16 my partner bought a dress for £108 (debit card used) from a British company based in Derby. It arrived on the 05-07-2016 by which time my partner no longer needed it. She asked same day to return it. The seller tried to convince her to keep it and offered some money off the item in return for doing so (35%). My partner wants to return for a full refund and has clarified this via email.
Seller continues to be difficult but said we could return the item but we would have to cover the postage. Here's the kicker...the item was sent from China and we are seemingly expected to send it there even though the company is registered in the UK and makes no mention anywhere on its site that the item (or any other item being sold) was being shipped from China (there was mention of a transfer of currency fee on checkout that should have started alarm bells ringing).
My understanding is we have every right to a full refund and return postage cost under the consumer laws as we have notified within 7 days? (Terms on website state shipping on returns is non-refundable - contarary to law?).
Should I have to pay to ship to China?...or am i able to send to the UK shop address?
If to China, is it sufficient to send a copy of the post office reciept for them to be legally positioned to have to process the refund within 14 days rather than wait for it to get to China?
Grateful for any advice.
Jon

Wait a minute, did i imagine a mention of ebay? Just read the words seller over and over and thought ebay.
Was this from a website OP? If so, do you have the website to hand? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Are you 100% sure it was a UK website? Having .co.uk is no guarantee of this and quite often, especially with these dress sites, if you start digging around the site you will find they are in China or an undisclosed overseas location.
What is the website?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
What consumer laws give you 7 days and cover the cost of returns? If you mean the DSR they were replaced in 2014 with the CCR which actually allows you 14 days to inform of your intention to cancel, a further 14 days to return the item, the right to your original postage costs back but you now have to cover the cost of the return postage.0

What site did you purchase from?
Also, your understanding of the return postage cost is wrong, a change of mind return means that the buyer pays all return tracked and insured postage and is only refunded once the seller has item back. Seller is obliged to refund the whole of the original price though (if this was a UK sale) including original postage. So it appears that their return costs are legal- it just hinges on where the company was based now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just wanted to say thanks very much for the fast responses so far & clarification over the return postage cost not been being something I can reclaim.
The item was not off ebay...it came from the website linked below. I think you will agree that it is a UK based company on the face of it. It appears to be operating out of a shopping centre in Derby.
Since return postage is not covered and royal mail don't guarantee items going abroad I'm even more reluctant to send out there. Where did you think in stand please in asking to return it to the UK address?
Just discovered I can't put the link as new user: website is Haltonhillsradio.com0 -

reading their terms they say they wont refund original shipping costs, so looks like their terms are not legal
also looks like a dodgy site to me, prices look very cheap for designer stuff
wonder why their store isnt listed on intu derby website0 -
Wording on the site where you can buy a dress from a site called xx radio ,com is most definitely a mangled chinese translation .0

The address in Derby appears to be the Lipsy store in the Westfield Shopping Centre, so I'm sceptical it has anything to do with the website at all...0

I did look at that as the phone number comes up as the Lipsy phone number, but the address for Lipsy is slightly different on intu website
OP have you called the number or only been in touch via email
you could call intu westfield customer service and ask if the shop exists0
