Sofa injury compensation
01 November 2007
Russell Jones & Walker Solicitors are now acting for a significant number of people who have experienced skin allergies, rashes and burns after buying Pia and Bari sofas from the retailers World of Leather, Walmsley’s Furnishing and Argos.
The sofas are manufactured by Linkwise. It is believed their condition is as a result of a reaction to possible chemicals applied to the surface of the sofas, resulting in painful blisters and sores, in some cases requiring medical attention and hospital treatment.
Argos has already formally written to its customers and has now withdrawn all of the Pia and Bari range sofas from sale, recalling all those that had previously been sold. Investigations are now underway to determine how the sofas came to be coated in alleged dangerous chemicals.
If you or a member of your family have purchased a Pia, Marco or Bari sofa and have suffered injury or discomfort, or have experienced problems when using these sofas when visiting a friend or relatives home, we are able to help and can be reached on 0800 884 0324 or via our email enquiries@rjw.co.uk.
Commenting, Christian Shotton at Russell Jones & Walker said:
"Many people have suffered severe reactions to the chemicals used in the production of these sofas, resulting in agonising sores and blisters. We are determined to ensure that consumers who have been affected by these chemicals are adequately compensated for the injury, harm and distress suffered."
You are advised not to delay in contacting our specialist lawyers as there are time limits for bringing a claim. Please contact our dedicated Team on 0800 884 0324 or via email: enquiries@rjw.co.uk, quoting Sofa Burns.
Batch numbers that are affected are shown below. Though if you are affected and your sofa batch is not on the list please still contact us as other batches might be affected:

Can I just stress that the list of affected batch numbers is not complete - if anyone is suffering from a rash and there is a leather sofa / chair in the house please consider that the two may be linked.
I would hate anyone to have to suffer for as long as I did before the problem was diagnosed. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

More and more people are starting to make claims as the problem becomes more publicised
If you have suffered and have needed medical attention - get legal advice now. Go direct to a solicitor if you can

We purchased a "Juliet" Leather sofa bed from Argos which was delivered on Christmas eve, on the 15th of January my grand daughter had to make the first of many trips to doctors with a nasty skin condition, which was first thought to be eczma then impetigo and has remained unexplained and 6 months on has still not cleared up.
Can anyone confirm if they have had the same problems with the Juliet sofa, argos are currently refusing to remove the sofa as it is not yet on their list of sofas affected but this is too much of a coincindence.
I am aware that some people have begun sending samples of their sofa off for independent testing can any advise of a name an address of any companies that will undertake this testing.0 -
Have you had a look under the sofa for a makers label? The problem is with sofas and chairs made by Linkwise.
The rash seems to clear up as soon as you stop using the affected chairs/sofas - have you tried keeping your GD off the sofa? My rash started to get better within 4 days - although I am left with permanant scars.
After trying to be reasonable and get replacement chairs from the Ebay shop I bought from I have had to resort to legal action and the solicitors have been very helpful, it might be wise to take legal advise before getting the sofas tested. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
