I bought a marco suite from wamsleys about 3 months ago. For the last 3 weeks hubby has had a really bad blistered rash on his back buttucks and thighs. Hes had a week of work and been on steroid cream and steriod tablets to try and get rid of this rash.
Today i have been told of an article in yesterdays news of the world. (yes not the best lol) says that argos and wamsleys have got suites from a certain factory in china that has been treated with something and there are quite a few incidents where customers have had to go to hospital or doctors for allergic reactions to something in the suites.
After reading the article my husband has had the same reaction.
I have no idea what im supposed to do now. Of cause my hubby cant sit of the sofa! He hasnt been allowed to sit on it for the last week cause we thought it could of been the problem.
From reading the article wamsley are not answering any questions regarding the sofas, so what do i do? We cant keep the sofa as hubby is allergic to whatever is on it but will they take it back and are we entitled to any comp as hubby had to take time of work due to the reaction?
Sorry its such a long post but its been such a stressfull few weeks with this rash this has really got me on one!
and to tell truth i had no idea where to go to ask these questions!
please help!

Have you tried finding out argos` position?0

Argos are currently sending out letters to all customers who have bought these sofas (including myself!) giving details of the batch numbers are affected. Customers who have a sofa with these batch numbers on are being issued with a replacement or refund depending on the situation.
My hubby had a nasty allergic reaction a month after we bought our sofa which left him in hospital, I'm hoping for a full refund.
Try calling Wamsley's head office and see what they have to say.0 -
hi colliefrog
Have you been in touch with trading standards? I did today. I would advise letting them know you have had a problem. After i rang them she rang me back saying she had refered it to an officer because of a potential saftey issue.
They have told me to get in touch with wamsleys and explain whats happened. If i dont hear anything after 14 days i have to get back in touch with them.
My hubby started with a rash abou 2 months after buying the suite the whole of his back was bright red, looked like a burn. He went to docs and at first was prescribed betnovate 0.1% but then it started spreading to his buttucks and thighs so went back and was put on steroid tablets.
He now has to sit on a sun lounger cause he's banned from our new settee!

why go to trading standards! and encourage others to do so as well???
as Colliefrog said, Argos are in the process of putting things right0 -
If you're not getting anywhere with the company that sold you the sofa then yes, I would say go to trading standards. But Argos (in my opinion) are dealing with this in a satisfactory manner so I have no need to do that. Plus, my manager is helping me sort my refund out (perks of working for them!)
My hubby's symptoms sound very similar to your hubby's. But his only flared up when his skin was in contact with the material, so he is ok as long as he covers up when he's sat on the sofa. I'm quite chuffed I'm getting rid of it - I never really liked it anyway and will never buy another sofa without sitting on it first!0 -
Im pleased your getting it sorted so quickly. I got mine from wamsleys. I love my sofa! Fits lovely in my room.
As for ringing trading standards if Argos and wamselys are doing everything to help the customers then me ringing them wont affect them.
If i get a satisfactory reply within the stated time then no probs. If i dont and there are other issues then thats different.
I always thought thats what trading standards were there for, to advise when you dont know what to do.0 -
We bought a Pia sofa set from Argos in October last year and they arrived at the end of January. By the end of February I had broken out in a red rash at the back of my calf and thigh. This rash progressed to become worse and worse to form blisters and start seeping. I was in bandages for 3 months and on Antibiotics for 4 months. I was in and out of doctors offices and hospital as they did not know what was wrong with me as all the tests for bacteria and fungi came back normal. My Fiance then also started breaking out all over his back. We were in hospital for a week being treated with silver nitrate as at this stage the wound had been badly infected and smelling. We had spent hundrends on steriod creams, antibiotics, bacterial washes, fungal creams and much more. Today there was an article in the newspaper about this problem and this is why I went online to read more about it and the symptoms are very similar although I had suffered for a long period and therefore is got infected. I am phoning Argos tonight and I am really annoyed to the cost this all involved and that we were not warned about a problem with these sofas...0

I've just finished sorting out my sofas. My sofas didn't have the affected batch numbers on but they still offered me a full refund and £150 compensation. I'm quite pleased with how they have dealt with it all. I hope you get the same treatment.0

I hate to say it BUT, if your husband had a reaction to a sofa that left him in hospital because of their negligence then it may be time to sue? I wouldn't just be looking for a replacement sofa and £150.
It's not as if he signed up for a drug trial or something....You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0 -
don't know if they could sue, considering only some people had an allergic reaction to the sofa, Personally I'd take the replacement and £150 compo as there's too much hassle/no guarentee of getting more0
