You owed the money, so you should have set it aside instead of choosing to spend it twice. Ocado did not make you overdrawn, you did as you didn't put the acado money aside, and it seems you spent this weeks supermarket money elsewhere and DD money elsewhere.

So if ocado had taken their money on time, you would be in the same financial situation.

I don't think you understand what happened at all lol. I had put the money aside for Ocado and if they had told me on the day there was an issue I could have paid them there and then. I did not spend this weeks supermarket money... it was taken out of my account without me knowing it was going to happen. So it isn't just a case of me spending the money and getting into trouble. And if they had told me, this could have been resolved months ago and it wouldn't have affected yesterday's shop at all.

Like I have said before, my issue is not that I owed them money... but that they chose not to tell me about it.
But if payment was "rejected" months back, you should have known about this from your bank statement. Why exactly was it "rejected"? Was it due to insufficient funds?

If you are not thoroughly checking your bank statements each month, then you are doomed to situations like this one occurring again in the future.

    I completely understand.

You bought an ocado shop for lets say 430, ocado didn't take the money, so you still have that 430.

This week you bought say £30 of food from Sainsburys and a direct debit.

So in total you have £70 in the bank, ocado take £40, Sainsburys take for example £20 and a DD of £10, therefore you should be now at £0 on your account, not overdrawn.

So unless you have spent it, in your bank you should have had, enough to pay ocado (you just said you put it aside) enough to pay sainsburys and enough to pay your direct debit.

The only time you don't have enough money is if you have over spent as you know what is in your bank account and what is owed.

Hi ....you have clearly had such a difficult time.

I know sympathy won't make life any easier but I really feel for you.
Perhaps your local authority or social services can offer helpful / useful contacts for you.?
As for surviving for two weeks maybe just one day at a time? It can. Be done.....there are many who can give useful tips to get you and daughter through......

You are clearly a strong person so don't be hurt by some of the comments that seem harsh. Find me someone who hasn't made a mistake:rotfl:
    Take care.

OP I volunteer at a food bank and everyone is welcoming and non judgemental. I don't know the system where you live buy CAB should know. You may also wish to see if CAB can help you deal with your bank and get them to waive charges.

Once you have done that I suggest you also try another board like DebtFreeWannabe and see what help and advice you can get about budgeting.

My issue is not that I owed the money, but that they didn't tell me there was an issue and that they have now caused me more issues without any communication at all. That seems ridiculous to me.

Like I have said before, my issue is not that I owed them money... but that they chose not to tell me about it.

Looking at things without any emotional attachment to the situation and you would perhaps realise that while they didn't tell you, you didn't notice. Not only that, the only kind of duty they might have is a contractual one to collect the payment. It is your duty to manage your finances and make sure the money is available for them to take.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but if you don't have money to spare then you really should be reconciling your bank account with your bills/orders. Trust me, it makes living on a budget so much more manageable.

And for some pantry tips - try and always keep at least eggs, milk, flour, a bag of rice & a bag of frozen chicken. Its amazing how many things you can make either from those ingredients alone or just with a few small additions (like spices/herbs/seasoning) and imo its a good principle to follow regardless of your financial situation. Even if you just buy 1 extra item a week, within a short time you'll have a stockpile to fall back on should you ever need it.

    Hello,

A few months ago, I ordered a shop from Ocado. 'Back then' they used to take the money *after* the shop was delivered, whereas apparently 24 hours ago they started charging before delivery.

    :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

They still do take it after the delivery and not before, they can't take it before as they don't know what your final total will be.

Here is my email that I have just received after my delivery first thing this morning.

    Hello Mrs xxxx,

This is confirmation of the new total price of your recent order.
    Order no: xxxxxxxxxxxx.
    Slot: 01/07/2016, 08:30.
    Adjustments
Bag Recycle Bonus (5p per bag) = £1.75
    Returned/unavailable total = £1.75
    Original order total = £39.99

    New order total = £38.24

We've amended your bill so your payment will now be processed.

    Thanks for shopping with us.
