Screwed over by Ocado and now in a real mess.

Hello,
A few months ago, I ordered a shop from Ocado. 'Back then' they used to take the money *after* the shop was delivered, whereas apparently 24 hours ago they started charging before delivery.
For some reason, the payment was rejected. What did Ocado do? Nothing! I got no letter, no email, no phone call, no nothing to let me know there was a problem. When I called them up on this they simply said it was their policy not to harass people!!! Nevermind that letting someone know there was a problem is not harassment!
Anyway, today they took the payment. Because of that, my shop from Sainsbury's was cancelled due to no funds, they put me overdrawn, and they made a DD bounce. When I spoke to them they kept saying that I had given them permission to take the money so they just kept trying, and despite the fact I now have NO FOOD to feed my daughter for 2 weeks they were unwilling to help in any way whatsoever.
I am now going to be charged £35 for the DD bouncing and £10 a day for the unauthorised overdraft. Which is going to screw me up next time I get my money.
I am more upset that my food order today was cancelled today to be honest because now I have a real issue in feeding my daughter.
I just can't believe there was NO communication from Ocado to let me know there was a problem! They sad if I had logged on to the website I would have seen the warning but I switched to Sainsbury's after that shop because I didn't like the attitude of the driver.
I feel so lost, and I am panicking. What do I do? Are they allowed to put me in a mess like this with no warning whatsoever? Is there anything I can do? I have emailed the bank explaining things and hopefully they will not charge me but you never know, and even so it has still messed everything up. I just don't know what to do, please, please help me?

Hi Angel, sorry you are in this predicament. Do you have any friends or family who could help out with food for your daughter? How old is she? Did the van driver actually come to your home - what was the problem with him/ her? If you are on benefits, you may be able to get help from a food bank.0

Thank you for such a swift reply. Unfortunately I don't have any friends or family that are able to help right now. I am on benefits so I am looking into the food bank idea. I just hate that I have to do it! My daughter is 9. x
As for the driver, I state on my delivery notes that I need the shopping delivered up three flights of stairs since I am unable to come down and help. He point blank refused to come up the stairs (even though all the drivers before him managed no problem). He buzzed me to tell me all my shopping was downstairs and he needed me to sign for it and I asked him to bring it up and he refused. There were 12 bags and it took me 45 minutes to get them into my flat, and I was in horrific pain by the end of it. There has never been a problem with them delivering to my door before and as I say it was written on the notes. There were only two 'boxes' full of shopping and it isn't like I ordered all bottles of drink and potato's to make the boxes really heavy lol.
It was more the disrespect though. He moaned at me for the time it took me to get down the stairs, even though I had my walking stick with me and he told me to hurry up, so I stopped using them.

I feel sorry for your situation but the point is that you had the Ocado shopping delivered and you hadn't paid for it so they kept trying to take the money which in my opinion is right.
You are annoyed that it left you unable to pay Sainsburys but you seem ok with the fact that you had 12 bags of Ocado shopping without paying for it for months?I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. You owed the money, so you should have set it aside instead of choosing to spend it twice. Ocado did not make you overdrawn, you did as you didn't put the acado money aside, and it seems you spent this weeks supermarket money elsewhere and DD money elsewhere.
So if ocado had taken their money on time, you would be in the same financial situation.0 -
I am sorry that you are struggling with both your health and feeding DS at the moment.
I understand your need for delivery, but if I were in the same predicament as you I would probably be shopping online at Asda and not Ocado and Sainsburys.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I am at a loss as to how Ocado has screwed you over , you actually failed to pay them at the time you had your delivery. Not much help now I know but it underlines why it's so important to know where your money is goingVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

What struck me is that you are on benefits and you shop at Ocado!
You must get out occasionally, your daughter needs to get out in the air.
Do you not have a Lidl or Aldi nearby? If you absolutely have to have home delivery try Tesco or Asda. If you have a Lidl or Aldi quite nearby it might be worth even a taxi ride, would still work out cheaper! Try looking in other shops, they are an awful lot cheaper. If you are broke and shopping in Ocado there is something seriously wrong. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I suppose it depends on the ops medical conditions as regards taxis?
A taxi to and from my local lidl/ aldi would probably be £20 minimum .
Could the op contact her bank to find out the EXACT reason he payment was rejected?0 -
The replies here are interesting. You may note that I never said I didn't want to pay Ocado. But if they had told me there was a problem it could have been resolved on the day, since there was enough money in my account for that shop and even if there wasn't for some reason I could have set up a payment plan with them and resolved the issue ages ago.
My issue is not that I owed the money, but that they didn't tell me there was an issue and that they have now caused me more issues without any communication at all. That seems ridiculous to me.
As for the fact that I chose to shop at Ocado, they price match with Tesco's... And I ordered from Asda for 5 years and in that time not ONCE did I receive my full order with no subs, and the fresh food was always very short dated. At least with Ocado and Sainsbury's you get what you order and the fresh stuff is actually edible.
I realise it must make some of you feel big and important having a go at me... but I feel I have the right to be angry that there was no communication from them at all, simply because they have a policy of not 'harassing people'.
As for going to Aldi or Lidl, that would be lovely if I had one local and wa well enough to actually do a shop. Which I am not.
And to the genius that suggested my daughter needs to go out... of course she does!!! Just because I can't do much doesn't mean I don't arrange things for her. But thanks for the judgement. If that is what you need to do to feel big and important go ahead lol.
Like I have said before, my issue is not that I owed them money... but that they chose not to tell me about it.0
