why do we need more border police
surely the immigrants know what a doomed and failing state the UK will become : why would they want to come here when they have the alternatives available so close at hand0 -
Main positive - Massive increase in sales of Prozac in the Aberdeen area0
-
A positive : the rest of the country outside London/SE still counts.
Westminster can choose to ignore these voters still, but they must live with the costs of doing so.0 -

Very much an open question. My stretch goal, which I know is not completely realistic, would be to retire at 50. I am in my late 30s at the moment. Finance wise, I'm doing ok, but certain options are more realistic than others.
Possibilities for retirement at 50 are:
- I really like London and most of my friends and family are here. Moving a bit further out into Surrey (perhaps even Dorking, your area) is a possibility. But that requires a big boost to my finances if I want a decent house.
- West country, near Bath or Bristol. I like the area and being close to a decent size city would be good. Bit cheaper than London
- Europe. We have done a fair amount of travelling in Europe and driving around exploring various areas. Ideally I'd like to be near the ocean.
- We love the French Riviera and have spent a lot of time there. The weather is guaranteed to be good almost all the time, the scenery is fantastic, you are close to the Italian alps (skiing, hiking), close to Italy for some extra culture, etc. It isn't the cheapest area but there are some decent places around and this was looking very good when we were there last year at 1.42 Euro to the Pound.
- West coast of France, near Biarritz. I also like this area but the weather is less good.
- I need to do more exploring of Spain or Portugal but at the moment they are less appealing to me than France.
- Remote possibility is in the regions south of Munich near the lakes. Beautiful. Or potentially around Bodensee area, another large lake bordering on Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
As you can probably deduce, if London house prices had continued their sorry climb (in my view) then buying somewhere bigger and better in or around London becomes less of an option for me but selling up my house here and moving to Europe becomes a much better prospect.0 -

it is a shame that massive immigration into the London area makes having a decent home there so unaffordable.0 -
There's been quite a big boost in political awareness. As far as I can tell, Lib Dem and SNP membership levels have jumped out.0
