The thread for pointless arguments about Brexit

Because it seems that the only actual benefit being touted by this nightmare of a decision is the new "control" we'll get over immigration, as if reducing immigration is actually a good thing.
you may perceive poor housing, overcrowding etc as good things. others see it as a bad thing and immigration control is one way of preserving our beautiful home.
There are no significant benefits in an ever larger population in a relatively small country.0 -
That's where we differ. I don't think we need a trade deal with the EU that badly. I think we have a great future outside the EU. Honestly, I think companies will find us a more attractive prospect now we are not attached to the crisis ridden EU.
By the way, I wish the EU well too.
45% of our trade is with the EU. For that reason, we do need a trade deal and badly.
It is the other way round about companies (I assume you mean multinationals). The EU is a much larger market than the UK. If we are not part of the EU single market, they will go where the money is.0 -
This thread wasn't supposed to become yet another EU good or bad debateChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

why do we need a trade deal that both manages trade and also the tax on tampons rather than simply an agreement that deals with buying and selling goods and services?0 -

And how much trade to we currently do with them? How many of them would provide the sorts of opportunities we lose from the EU?
How much more will it cost than trade with the EU?
Take cars for example; China buys a lot of (high end) UK Cars (though all owned by German companies), but what about the rest of the world? The Americas don't, and won't. Africa doesn't and won't. India doesn't and won't, and so on.
TBH I have tried to read all the posts and got completely fed up. Do you honestly have a clue what you are talking about or are you deliberately trying to be antagonistic?
Ok lets take cars.?
The UK is the biggest importer of German Cars? Do you really think that it is not in the Germans interests to set up a trade agreement which allows us them to export ?
Lets take China who as I understand it is having a downturn. Yes they import a lot of luxury cars but I can not see anyone who can afford to buy a Bentley GT really being bothered ?
I completely understand that you do not think that leaving the EU was the right thing to do and that's fine that is your choice. But a lot of people are happy. In fact "breaking news " there was a vote and more people voted to leave than to stay.
Instead of putting what I can only say is an amazing amount of effort into seeing the downside of leaving why not try to see the positive. There are lots. It will happen.
9 million people will also not leave the UK on mass.
Pushing / bullying someone into giving you a hypothetical answer is just like me demanding or trying to belittle ( which I would never intentionally do to anyone) you so that you answer what would happen if space aliens beamed down and blew up half the country. What would happen? No-one me , you included would actually be able to say with any certainty or base our views on any past experience because it has never happened.
Hate to burst your bubble but the world is not flat.
Fairies do not live at the bottom of my garden.
We are leaving the EU.
So again why not try and make the best of it. If we all came out with a positive attitude then perhaps the markets would calm safe in the knowledge and for once we are going to take control and become united once more!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

The right taxes, low regulation and skilled labour will ensure the UK retains its position as an attractive business and financial centre in a post-Brexit world.
Negativity is self-fulfilling, but so is positivity. Leicester City or Iceland punch way above their weight due to self-belief. It’s the same with the economy. What John Maynard Keynes referred to as “animal spirits”, others label as “business confidence". So we stay positive and confident.
If companies stop investing, if skilled workers emigrate, if consumers stop spending, then we will indeed have a nightmare scenario – but brought on by our own doing, not by Brexit.
Under World Trade Organization rules, the UK has “most favoured nation” status with the EU and is, therefore, entitled to the best deal that the EU gives to any other country. With two years to negotiate a trade deal, the UK will continue to benefit from the Single Market until a new deal is agreed.
There will not be a sudden impact on trade. Additionally, the UK can start negotiating trade deals with many countries which the EU never had trade deals with.0 -

Or a deal that tells us how big or how small our strawberries have to be. ?Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

I don't understand what you mean. The poster I was responding to was talking about whether we need a trade deal at all.0
