One for the moderators

Hi

Could one of the moderators please explain why my sig file has been removed? I had problems when I first joined, but sorted it with a board guide in a different section, and there was no problem, so I can only assume it was removed by someone in this board.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if it was deleted, and a private message had arrived saying your site file has been removed because ....

What's the point in having a public forum if people can't expression views, the link was to my own forum about home working / trying to make money online, a similar theme to the whole ebay concept.

I think you've might of posted this in the wrong section as it isn't relevant to eBay. However, you might get an answer on this board:

Or by emailing the webmaster perhaps?

My point exactly, if people click on a link in my sig it's because they are interested. I'll have a look at the link you posted later, meant to be busy working

Your signature was removed probably because you are not allowed referrers links in signatures of any kind. These should all be placed on the referrers board.

My signature was approved by the board guide there, and it has been removed by someone else without telling me why.

I think the point was that you have more chance of getting an answer posing the question on a board relevant to the subject. This board is for EBay related matters. As previously suggested, try here for an answer :)http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=50

I don't think board guides can approve signatures - if its been deleted I guess it would be a moderator-
If you signature included a direct link to a sitepage which itself ( the landing page) had affiliate links or other items that would not normally be allowed on this site, then I guess they would delete it

Yes a Pm would no doubt have been a good ideal, but guess they are busy beavers

On the referral board I make a point of checking both messages posted & signatures displayed. If I think a signature is questionable I will look at it to see where it leads.

Signatures which clearly break the rules are then deleted from each post on the referral board & reported to the moderators (whom can remove signatures entirely). In addition I also PM the member in question & more often than not the member personally removes / edit's their signature before the moderators have even seen them.

Whilst I did look at this signature I felt neither the need to delete or report, this does not mean that I offered my approval. Simply that in my opinion no rules had been broken. The moderators are the experts and have made a decision, this needs to be discussed with them.

But how can payless put his details in his sig, granted it doesnt say click me and we can do a discount on financial advice but when you click the link it pretty much does the same job, it just seems disguised as a disclaimer

Shugster, if I removed the post I usually do send a quick pm to explain why and I apologise if I didn't in this instance.

I don't remember every link I remove and of course I can't check because once a moderator agrees my decision even I cannot see the post any longer. However if it was the post I think it was it was because the post served no purpose other than to refer to the link in your sig.

Also, re clarification on sigs this is the official line from admin:

"Can I again please reiterate: Links of personal benefit are not allowed in signatures. A few examples of this are referral links (rpoints etc) including links to posts on the referrers boards. Also websites you own/host that you benefit from financially through visitors. This includes online-shops or pages that contain referral links even if not linked directly in your signature.

Signatures that break these rules will have to be removed and can be reported to [Removed by Forum Team]. If you are unsure if your signature is permissible or not, please contact an abcon and one of us will let you know. We’d far rather do that than have to remove them."

Where I get complaints from other users about sig lines I will always refer to the statement above. However, as it says there if anyone wants to get their sig line checked then ask abcon. However, in this instance (assuming I remember the post rightly) I removed the post for reasons other than problems with the sig line.

I have always offered MSE users a discount, it was Martin who actually published this fact in one of his articles ( I decliend possible wider exposure) and suggested a signature ( personally I prefer to do business with someone that wants to deal with me as an adviser rather than just for a discount- but always offered someting back, when my level of work outweighs what I think is fair income for work done- ie straightforward case with no home visit)

I do need the disclaimer and in fairness signature space is not enough for the full disclaimer - without it I would either would not post - or at least post under a different name without declaring my area of "expertise"

I created the landing page to avoid linking to a homepage that includes other services/links.

I also make clear links back to to MSE

Signature Checked on various times with Martin/ Mods

But, happy to change if MODs have an issue
