I do think it is confusing for many people with regard to what is allowed and what isn't. This kind of thing is just going to continue to crop up in the future and will continue to take up the time of those who are required to deal with it.
Would anyone really miss the sig facility that much if it were unavailable?
8383: Sorry, but I just have to add that although I agree with you that perhaps emailing about this matter instead of posting was maybe the way to go, your last comment about this person's site wasn't needed....even if you did add a smiley.
I agree............0 -
I'm afraid that I have to agree with previous posters who suggest getting rid of signatures altogether.
Yes, there are MSE users who do enjoy the signature facility, who abide by the rules and use it as it was intended to be used. It seems wrong to penalise these users just because a growing minority choose to abuse the system.
However;
MSE is primarily a moneysaving web-site.....Abcons are employed by Martin. Surely the time, effort and and resources that Abcons waste checking signatures could be spent in better ways?
In my opinion, removing the signature facility would be moneysaving.

The site has become so popular that the abuse of signatures was inevitable. I wonder whether, if disabling signatures was to be done, those board guides, such as pink-winged, could have an icon underneath their username.
Come on Martin, get someone to press that magic button!0 -
Can I just say that the MSE team are in discussion about this and other subjects probably because they are sick of me bending their ears about it
and obviously they will let users know as soon as decisions are made.

Just have to add to this post that it would also get rid of the rash of posters who are now asking to be thanked in their signatures0 -

I like having my website in my sig, in the hope that someone will look at it who is interested in traditional music events in Torfaen, but from the numbers that look at the site, I don't think it's that many!
I don't know how much time abcons have to spend on deleting sigs (?), but we can all turn them off and not see them if we want and also we don't have to click on them and even if we do we wouldn't normally more than once or if we're not interested, so I don't see the harm in sigs containing posters' own sites.
Could we have a sticky somewhere where people list their own websites so we can all have a look if we want to?Torgwen.....................

It appears that in the thread 'Some Rule Clarifications' signatures are to be banned.
From the way Martin has worded his post I am unsure whether this is signatures per se, or just the ability to link through them.0 -
At present, it's links within signatures which are not allowed.0
