still better that walking in the shoes of the IRA

Carry on Clapton. You are a good representative of Leave supporters. Your driveling idiotic nonsense will no doubt serve you and your peers well as you begin to try and dimly comprehend what you have done to our country.

    Well done.

    Suffering? Pain?

If you're still finding yourself having a little cry when you think back to the Scottish referendum you probably ought to talk to someone.

Maybe they are confusing losing the referendum with failing to qualify for Euro 2016, you'd think that they'd be used to that by now.

I do have a message for them though:

Thanks for keeping an eye out for all our properties and letting the cat out while we were all (England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Eire) away, we'll be back soon (but hopefully not too soon).

I think the referendum was a pretty stupid way of finding out that the country is a lot less united than the politicians thought..

...but we are here now. So I agree with you.

I watched a few interviews with EU commentators this morning and they were talking about the collective, how the EU needs to be united, controlling minority fears, etc.

They still don't get it. Unless you involve people from the grotty parts of Wales; England; France; Spain; Greece; you are going to struggle with this European dream.

Digby Jones, and a few others, talking sense and focussing on what we can do rather than what we can't. Maybe the political elite will sit up and realise why this happened and do something positive for this country now that their future EU commissioner jobs have gone up in a puff of smoke.

The world has just shrunk. My own son now no longer has a future where he can easily live anywhere in the EU. Scotland will be gone soon then we'll be a small island with tiny horizons.

40 years of integration torn up overnight. And for what? So a bunch of ignorant closet racists and pensioners can swagger around waving England flags for a couple of days. I am fcking furious, and a very long way from the point where I can see myself 'working with them'.

They can choke on the mess they have made.

    Stop being a bell end.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

The so called elite will shrug their shoulders, say people be crazy and get one with making loads of money. Whatever losses they got on Friday have probably already been recouped and they have almost certainly devised a plan of action to maximize their profits going forward. The other folks on the other hand...

And why should the politicians listen? The public have just shown that they will listen to soundbites, "mistakes" and "misunderstandings" if it is something they want to hear. If it is something they don't want to hear, then it is dismissed as fear mongering and ignored.

So now we have a situation where the pound is dropping and the Bank Of England had to announce 250 billion pounds just to stablise it. The EU seemingly playing hardball with the only UK ally being Angela "supposed enemy of the UK" Merkel. Scotland pushing hard for another referendum. Worrying signs in Northern Ireland. America saying no favoritism on trade deals (back of the queue). The UK credit rating in danger of dropping and an unelected prime minister in number 10 (wasn't having a unelected leader a big thing last week?).
And it has only been two days.

Will things get better, who knows? Finance experts are saying that a recession is almost inevitable and could last more than a year. I am sure that will be great news to the people out there who are already on the edge. The weak pound will cause prices to rise (if it stays weak of course) which won't help the person on the street. The "elites" won't even notice.

What saddens me is this was an opportunity to say to the rest of the world, "no will will not blame anyone else. We have our problems but we will band together and tackle them head on and once we are stronger, look out world, we are coming to get you." Instead we said "we will start pointing fingers as soon as things get tough. We bear 43 year old grudges and will only listen to what we want to hear especially if it written on the side of a bus*. Instead of working with our partners to solve our issues, we will run away from them and call them names.

    Anyway, essay over.

    * Seriously I can't get over that, the 350 million figure was debunked five minutes after it was made but people still quoted as truth until the end of the campaign.
