Change brings out the best in us

I've had all the main channels on all day and it's noticeable how many of the voices that said we would not be able to cope with change, are now stepping up to the plate and tapping into their mental resource and fortitude, now talking about how WE CAN make the best of the opportunities before us.

Vince Cable just now saying how clever people will be thinking of ways to bring us through this and restore full confidence whereas previously he was a sage of gloom.

Frances O'Grady suddenly saying we must all throw our energy into the endeavour and pull through

Change brings out the best in us. That's why we will thrive - pure emotion, invention and drive, not graphs and IMF charts

I really hope you are right Conrad, I just worry about a lack of political talent to guide us through the next few years.

Seems to me you could apply this very same argument in favour of joining an United States of Europe (no I'm not advocating it). It is change, and it will bring out the best in us, right?

Being invaded by a foreign power would be a big change - would that work as well?

We have no choice but get on with it or there will be severe loss of confidence in UK which would affect our economy even more. I am really angry we have been put in this position sometimes by people who now say they did not expect to win or just voted to leave to kick the elite. Just heard that the Calais mayor now wants to talk about Le Touquet agreement, something the leave camp were warned about.

Typically flippant response from a Brexiteer to a perfectly valid comment. No one knows the consequences of this decision in the medium to long term but it is a perfectly valid emotion to be worried about our future in these uncharted waters. I hope you gave more thought and consideration to how you voted than you do when you comment on this forum.

This is what remain were up against :(
Sunderland a beneficiary of inward investment linked to EU access, and you get this (below) Interesting that only 3.6% of the Sunderland population were foreign born.
Never mind that his bosses at the car plant had made it clear they would much rather see Britain stay in the EU. The 19-year-old apprentice wanted out. “We’re being taken over by foreigners,” he said. “People from Israel, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria – they all end up living here.”

Smoking under a plastic shelter away from an unseasonably arctic wind, a colleague, Mark Willshire, pointed out that none of those countries were actually in the EU. But Winyard’s mind was made up: “My great grandad fought for British independence. We shouldn’t let foreigners take over now.”

'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher
