oh my goodness. I hope this disgraceful statement is not a true picture of your state of mind. I won`t need to argue your point because it is obviously complete and utter nonsenseGoldiegirl wrote: »I'm not personally saying that 'Brexit voters are old and thick'
I'm pointing out information that has been reported, and suggesting that in some cases, some people who feel let down by the establishment may have used the referendum to make an anti-establishment statement.0 -
Did you see my 'probably' in bold and my disclaimer?
Hope your part of Argyll is sunny right now- mine is.
Think I mis-understood the post! Sorry.
And now it's hit me - if the Scots vote to cede from the UK and if we then get taken in by the EU we'll have borders and passport controls between us and England.:eek:0 -
I'd possibly agree with you, kittie - if Goldiegirl hadn't been at pains to point out that she is only repeating what information she says has been reported:
Halfway down this BBC webpage - headed 'How different age groups voted' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36616028
Next heading 'Turnout was low in areas with more young people'
And then there's the 'As well as age, educational attainment and national identity were also key factors in how the UK voted' section.

Wow, talk about jumping to a conclusion - did I say anywhere this was what I thought?Early retired - 18th December 2014

Looks forward to reassurance that that comment of what "other" people said:cool: (ie an anti-Brexit newspaper - the Guardian) would still have been posted even if voting Brexit.....0

you need to do some research on article 50. As soon as this is set in motion then we have a pretty short time limit in which to extricate ourselves from the eu mess and to come to some sort of fair agreement with the countries concerned. The powers that be would be foolish to go straight into invoking article 50. An immediate invocation is what france is demanding but it is down to the uk to do what is best for the uk as a whole
Isn`t democracy a wonderful thing and aren`t we lucky to live in a country in which we can still make choices? It is good forward planning to get us out of ever stronger inflexible bindings and I personally applaud the commonsense of the great British public. If the vote had gone the other way than I would simply have carried on with my life, albeit with a heavy heart. I certainly would not have slagged off the people who combined to make this democratic recommendation
Who is 'slagging off the people who have combined to make this democratic recommendation'?
I most certainly haven't - I've commented on reports in the media, and offered a suggestion why some groups of people may have voted in the way they have. I think I'm allowed to do this in discussion and debate.
I've been very careful not to categorise all Brexit voters as being old and dim. SOME may be - in the way some Remain voters may be!
But I'm really surprised that the Leave contingent don't seem in any rush to go - surely now the vote has been done, it's best to just get on with it as quickly as possible ( not that 2 years is quick)
I personally felt we were better off IN rather than out - but I feel that the outcome of a democratic vote should be acted on as soon as possible, to avoid doubt and uncertainty.
By the time we leave, it'll be well into the 2020's if we move at the snail's pace that it looks like it'll be. Is that what Leavers want?Early retired - 18th December 2014

Is it the Leave contigent or Cameron that is reluctant to be the one to start this process? Maybe there's a strategy in place to try to stabilise all the important items that make up the economy before adding to the uncertainty? Maybe so many people are in shock or possibly there has been no contingency planning for Brexit.

I love these Artisan Islington Intelligentsia who say we, the proletariat could not be trusted to have the vote! Now, as on my Facebook, the remains of the day are pumping up vile, and scare, as they have done for weeks. I really love the ones calling us racists. Or the ones calling us anti immigrant. Putting up picture of idiot Farage, as though we are his hero worshippers! We can certainly see who the real racists are. They're the ones who wanted to stay in charge, the ones on the junket. Well the junket on us is over. We had been disaffected for forty years in this charade called Europe. And thus morning, Godzilla was not burning houses in London either.
Now there is talk of rushing to get Irish passports. Good, if you don't like this land, then take your new passport, your new facade. Just like make up, you can put it on your face and like an actor, become someone else you are not!
Me, I am British, I will remain British. Tonight I will hope that ... Win in the game in Paris. Wales or Northern Ireland. I do not care, as long as there is one of us left in, they'll get my support. On Monday, it will be different.
On Monday, your job would not have changed. Godzilla will still be a film. The Germans will still make minis in Oxford. And Brussels sprouts will still be on the shelves for Christmas.
As for immigration. Question why the EU did not allow immigration from the commonwealth!
Glad to be a thick person who went to work at 16, not on some Erasmus paid holiday in Europe disguised as a needlework degree!0 -

Why would Cameron even want to start the process - he didn't want this outcome. I think it'd be preferable for him to go sooner than October, they can then vote for a Brexiter to be PM (likely Boris) and then the pro-leave PM can start the process.
Although Boris himself says there's no rush so it begs the question, is it the Brexiters the ones who are reluctant to start
The Leaver's campaigned for us to exit the EU - so surely they must have an inkling of how they will negotiate our departure(insert tongue in cheek smillie) - so it makes sense for a Brexiter PM to do the jobEarly retired - 18th December 2014
