I suppose the young are only going to miss their holidays in Europe on the Eramus Scam disguised as a needlework degree. But we were young once. Just we had to wait 41 years for the chance to have our say.

Have you read my location? My country voted remain too... but then we number a whole lot fewer than probably Yorkshire and Cornwall / Devon put together. I don't have figures and just using those counties for illustration purposes.

Not sure about that, I live in Argyll too and it appears on occasion that Yorkshire is depopulating and relocating here :D

I posted this on the other prepping thread, but I'll post it here too

The reports say that the people who voted Leave, are more likely to be old and / or poorly educated.

Given that the old and poorly educated often say that the government and establishment in general has no interest in them, I wonder if their Leave vote was more about voting against the establishment rather than actually about leaving the EU.

But what is done is done, and Leave won. So the Leave voters will have to live with the consequences of their vote, just as the Remain voters will have to live with the result of the Leave voters actions.

I think an 'Indyref2' would be a bad idea - we can't keep having referendums until will get the 'right' result. Same goes for Scotland - the Scottish Nationalists can't keep calling for referendums every couple of years, until they get they way.

I think the Leave polititians need to get on with it, and invoke article 50 ASAP. But some of them seem curiously reluctant, now that they've won. I saw Boris on Tv this morning, saying there's no rush - I thought he'd be champing at the bit to get on with it, now he's scored the victory he campaigned for. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking 'what the hell have I got myself into, I didn't think Leave would actually win!':rotfl:

  • Politics aside, it's done now so we need to make the best of it. We may need to weather a storm or a just a little shower, time will tell but either way there will be change and I for one would feel better being prepared to support my family through whatever may come which is why I came to this thread. What suggestions do you have on what sort of things we should be doing/thinking about now we have a Brexit vote?

...as I've stated on the other thread - please stop saying its the "old and poorly educated" that are likely to have voted Brexit.

    It is not.

Personally - I'm late middle age and university level intelligence - and I am not best pleased at reading that I'm apparently older and dimmer than I actually am.

Anyway - since age and IQ are both a case of "you get what you get" (ie the same as the colour of your eyes) and people cant help the way they were born or the year they were born in - then that is NOT a helpful comment to make.

I'm not personally saying that 'Brexit voters are old and thick'

I'm pointing out information that has been reported, and suggesting that in some cases, some people who feel let down by the establishment may have used the referendum to make an anti-establishment statement.

I'm not saying that this is the case for every single Brexit voter - I'm just making a suggestion - that's all

I think it's poor form to ask me to stop making comments that you personally don't like - after all we are living in a democracy, as the Leave voters are so fond of pointing out!

Did you see my 'probably' in bold and my disclaimer?

Hope your part of Argyll is sunny right now- mine is.

oh my goodness. I hope this disgraceful statement is not a true picture of your state of mind. I won`t need to argue your point because it is obviously complete and utter nonsense

you need to do some research on article 50. As soon as this is set in motion then we have a pretty short time limit in which to extricate ourselves from the eu mess and to come to some sort of fair agreement with the countries concerned. The powers that be would be foolish to go straight into invoking article 50. An immediate invocation is what france is demanding but it is down to the uk to do what is best for the uk as a whole

Isn`t democracy a wonderful thing and aren`t we lucky to live in a country in which we can still make choices? It is good forward planning to get us out of ever stronger inflexible bindings and I personally applaud the commonsense of the great British public. If the vote had gone the other way than I would simply have carried on with my life, albeit with a heavy heart. I certainly would not have slagged off the people who combined to make this democratic recommendation

But FOUR nations voted. Two to remain and two to leave. Thus as they have smaller populations Scotland and Northern Ireland are being removed from the EU against the will of their citizens :(
