Had 60% which just ended, interested in Sky Q but they wanted £125 install, £65 a month for the full package plus multiroom with a 2Tb box.

Signed up as a new customer in my partners name, got a £65 install, full package, multiroom, 2Tb box for £52 a month, for 18 months.

...this shows the totally inconsistent SKY approach to customer retentions- my s-i-l recently upgraded to the same Q package, a few days before the TV went off - and got a free install, fibre and line included for £60 pm!
  • Hi,
have two queries, hope to get some advice.

Had a deal giving me a discount for 12 months of an 18 month contract. Monthly bill was due to go up in October. A couple of weeks back phoned up to find out when my contract was up (feb 18) and nothing offered re lowering the price.

Got a letter from sky today. "we've extended your offers for 12 months with no new contract".

    My queries:-
does this mean no contract from now, or once my original expires?
once under no contract, I take it that I could try haggling or moving but would I still have to give the required notice period?

    many thanks
    T.

    Sorry can't help with specifics.

But I got a similar letter a couple of days ago and haven't got around to phoning Sky and asking what it means yet. Currently on 60% off the whole tv package paying £32/month. I'd be happy with that for another 12 months with no tie-in.

If they've sent you the letter now then I'd guess it starts from October but you're best checking with Sky, it's not like they've not messed up previously. I'm surprised you got one to be honest since they've got by the short and curlies for 6 months at full whack.
  • My opinion is that Sky Q came a few years too late, think I've said this before. Now Tv will be eating into some of their customers as well. And Netflix is becoming a dominant player. Amazon Video to a lesser extent. A lot of people will make do with Freesat or Freeview.

    thanks for the replies.

smallblue, my discount has been around 30%, which was ok 12 months ago (comparing other supplies with the tv channels i want - cheaper deals meant loss of favourite channels). But i am paying the same as you for basic package. I don't want or need all the bells and whistles - happy with original tv, landline, unlimited 17mb BB, oh and sky HD box. I know for only a few pounds more I could get a lot more "stuff", but I don't want it.

Colin, i am surprised too. Why not squeeze me for six months top price and then offer? Maybe basic users like me pay a lot for a little, and they would make more profit in the end by keeping me for a year?

It does seem to be a good deal (in comparing what's out there like for like especially the unlimited and keeping certain channels - I do like a cetain level of basic ;-) - but I am a naturally suspicious old git and think what's the catch.

We've got Cinema included that really we only watch one or two films at Christmas! Sports R Us, but I thought they'd do a better %off deal if we had the movies included. If they do honour the 60% off for another 12 months I might see if they'll remove the movies - but they only work out at about £3.40/month.
  • I've just accepted another 12 months of 60% off, I only have the original package so it's £8 a month. No quibbling required, they just offered it. It's a 12 month contract but that's fine with me and was done via live chat.

We have Cinema for the first time and though there are a number waiting to be watched, I find that I become bored by some, can't follow some and can't tell what actors are saying in others (and it's not my ears at fault), so very few are enjoyed, besides the odd novelty 3D or cartoon film.

I certainly won't have it again for less than 75% off.

Well after my 60% discount mess up on Sky's part( i have posted on here) due to the "new" Sports Complete package being added in August and eventually getting sorted a few days ago i live chatted today and the result was 50% variety, cinema and sports for 18 months on 18 month contract and the £10 money making admin for Sky's pension fund. I thought that was only for phone calls and not for live chat.
I thought about the offer long and hard and after 3 secs said no and now i am in my 31 days to the end.
Checked mysky and i now have 30% discount showing.
