Does anyone have any accurate information on how they work out pricing in retentions? I've been doing the whole cancellation thing with VM for years now. Currently on 100MB broadband with talk weekends and paying £17 per month which includes line rental.

A few years ago, I had one employee who said that they have a certain amount of money they can play with per customer and this number depends on your overall package. He told me phone and 50mb broadband customers had £150 per year that retentions could play with, phone, broadband, tv (basic) had £200, those with the everything ticked had £400.

I've tried to ask subsequent people when I get 'the' phone call but none of them have commented any further.

Does anyone have anything they can add? Any previous or current VM employees or their family/friends able to add further information?
I want to know how you get a deal like that !!

£17/month for BB (100MB at that), Line Rental, Talk Weekends.

Majority of times I phoned they are not interested when pushed or offer very little.

I've just accepted Full House tv, vivid 200, weekend calls, a tivo box and a new v6 box to replace a VHD for £55 a month.

I called them last Monday to cancel, they offered to drop my payment by £1 a month due to me being a loyal customer! I said no thanks to that one...not heard back from them so it looks like I will be leaving them after 7 years of managing to get a decent retention deal. Not this time it seems.

I have full house TV, 150 MB broadband, Sky Sports HD, Talk weekends currently pay £105 per month.

Rang retention's (who are complete bull shitters btw) said BT Sports has more football on Sky Sports?? Also claimed to see my TV usage (which channels I watch) and that I didn't need full house and I should go on the next one down Variety?

I apparently don't need broadband 150MB broadband either so they "offered" me ... wait for it....broadband downgrade to 50mb , tv downgrade to Variety...new price £95 a month! :rotfl:

I told them to disconnect me. Don't want to leave feel I got someone who couldn't be arsed. Seems they are trained to just downgrade you to get the prices down now, or I either got a bad operator or played a bad hand.

Got disconnection e-mail as well. How certain is it they will call back? I never have the landline plugged in, will they call my mobile? All a bit of a mess now if i have to go through disconnection and re-connection...how should i play it?

So outbound retention's called me pretty much every day since this happened (on my mobile too). Got this deal:-

    Bundle charges
    Talk Weekends
    Full House TV (XL)
Virgin TV V6 Box, powered by TiVo
    VIVID 100 Optical Fibre
    Bundle charges total £44.25

    Promotional offer(s)
    12 Month Discount
    Promotional offer(s) total £19.00CR

    Phone line rental
    Line Rental
    Phone line rental total £19.00

    Premium add-ons
    Sky Sports Collection
    Sky Sports HD Pack
    Premium add-ons total £38.75

    New monthly package total* £83.00

More than happy with this. They've took broadband down to 100MB but this going to happen to everyone on full house apparently. 12 month contract but protected against the upcoming price increase! Looks like they've just took the line rental off. Least I don't have to worry about it for another year. :j

If you don't like what inbound retention's are offering you just say cancel (30 day notice period before disconnection). Outbound retention's WILL call you.

I've just gone on to the Virgin website (via Quidco) and got the same bundle for £78/month for 12 months. You can also get £110 cashback.

Personally, I think you can get that bundle for around £50/month - just need to negotiate a bit harder. ;)

But your pack doesn't have the SkySports HD sub...so basically we got the same deal and you are a golden new customer! ;)

You ain't going to get that bundle with SkySports for £50.

I added the HD sub too. ;)

I've also come across a Virgin Media promo code that adds £50 credit to your account (found here)

For the sake of clarity, here's the package price at £78 per month:

    Screenshot_2017-08-12_at_09.07.34.png

    And £50 credit:

    Screenshot_2017-08-12_at_09.09.08.png

Factor in the £110 cashback via Quidco or TCB, the £50 credit and Virgin's £20 activation fee, then you can get the equivalent package for about £66/month.

IMO, the whole point of a retention deal is to get the same package that a new customer could get for the same OR cheaper price. Your package can be had for around £50 per month with Virgin - I'm sure of it. If you're armed with the above information then it's a lot easier to haggle down a £66/month package (as demonstrated above) to a £50/month package.

But if you're happy with £83/month then that's all that matters. :)

I've gone for the VIP bundle as a retention offer, £99 a month for 9 months. £9 a month more than for new customers but better value than the last retention deal I had.

I will now get Sky Cinema and a 2nd box. It mentions VIVID 300 on the website, but not completely sure if I'm getting that.

Previously had a cracking new customer offer for 12 months (think it was £70), and then half price Sky Sports for 6 months after that, so have been paying £97.62 per month.

Currently paying £76. Per month for vivid 200, full tv and talk week end.. never use landline, might get away with reducing broadband but we do stream a lot (also got Netflix and Now tv). Contract due to expire at end of this month, so will see what they offer when I ring. Not got my letter yet....

Spoken to retentions, they offered me no price rise and reduce bill to 71.00
Going through with cancellation for now.

Also currently paying £76 for the same package. Was offered a reduction to £65 or £59 for vivid 100. Have gone through with cancellation request for now and hope to get a call like you had in a couple of days offering something around £55 which is what I'd pay if I moved to sky.

Some recent negotiations from earlier in thread:
    200mb BB
    Player TV (Basic Package)
    Talk Anytime
£35 offered, haggled to£29 after saying cheaper with BT

    100mb BB
Full House TV (new V6 box)
    Talk Weekends
    £32

    150MB BB
    Mix TV
Evening & Weekend Calls with Caller ID
    £30.05pm

    150mb BB
    £28

    100mb BB
    £22.50

I was called back by the retentions team today and was offered my current package:
    Anytime with Multi-Talk 1000 add-on
    100mb BB
    £33pm

I haggled this price from the initial offer of £38 by simply saying I was looking for something closer to £30. The advisor said he would speak to his manager and then was able to add the additional £5 discount. Note - I was previously paying £38pm.

I also enquired about adding their TV service and was offered the following:
    100mb BB
    Talk Evening and Weekend
Mix TV (with V6 Box) - with Asian Mela Package add-on
    Free installation of TV service
    £55pm
