Overall quite pleased with that, will save some faffing around if I'd switched back to Sky and TBH when I was shopping around I don't think I'd have been able to get anything comparable for the money.
I've been with Virgin for years now - is it the case with Sky / BT that you can actually get a better deal as an existing customer threatening to leave than as a new customer?1 -
Probably much easier to retain a customer by just offering something sensible. I knew it was going to increase as I’d been paying £54 until April which was very cheap indeed. The other issue is we can’t get full fibre from any other provider so that does really limit options (oh and I’ve removed our satellite dish and TV aerials). I’m hoping that before renewal is due again in 18 months that BT has full fibre in our area and we’ll also need to eliminate our need for a landline number so a potential switch would be much easier.0

Has anybody had any luck ringing these numbers?

I'll be putting in my cancellation in at the end of June when my present contract ceases.
It hasn't stopped Virgin already offering deals to to tempt me. I must have had about 4 emails trying to persuade to swop my V6 box for one of their 360 boxes, but I'm not interested.
A few days ago a lady rang me and made reference to the fact my contract would be ending soon. She said they were once again prepared to offer discounts for their services, this would be M350 Mbps, Mega TV, Sky Sports, TNT Sports, free weekend calls. I certainly did not need the 350 Mbps, as I currently have 250 Mbps, and that is perfectly adequate for my needs.
Here's the rub though. In April I was paying £56.25. Following the 8.8% increase, this then increased to £61.20. If I had accepted her offer, the new price for the services offered would have been £70.32, which represents, more or less, a 25% increase on what I was paying up to April. It's taking the mickey really, isn't it?
I will just wait and see if, following cancellation, they offer me a similarly good deal to the one you've been able to negotiate. Netflix would be nice, although not bothered about Sky Cinema.1 -

If you are out of contract on the sim then you can still get the deal, just use the migrate your mobile number on the link. If not out of contract, come back when you are.

If your O2 contract is out of minimum term you can presently get 10GB (doubled to 20GB with Volt) for £5.99 from the MSE comparison site. I grabbed it a year ago when it was £5 which went up to £5.44 in April, at the end of minimum term, it's continued at £5.44 (subject to next Aprils rise) on a rolling monthly contract since and still with the Volt doubling thanks to the £21 (equivalent) VM 125Mb BB deal from on here.

I put in my cancellation this morning. I was transferred after making the initial call to presumably retentions, but the call didn't go too well. The best he could offer was about £80 for something I was paying £56.25 for in April, so I went ahead with the cancellation.
So the clock is now ticking. My contract finishes 27th July. On the upside the communal property I live in had high-speed, fibre-optic cabling installed last year via BT Openreach, so if I do end up leaving Virgin, there are plenty of alternative providers out there, and I guess I'll be saving about £40 a month.
Still, I will miss the V6 box.0
