  • Hi all, just wondering how long it usually is before they call. It's only been a couple of days since I cancelled.

IME it is within a few days, but I've only "cancelled" twice, having negotiated satisfactory deals on other occasions.

I cancelled 2 weeks ago and no call, mind you I don’t mind leaving them.  Always had a call and indeed I help friends through their process, but ironically now it’s my own turn, no call.  Hahah

Thanks - I received a call the following day from an 0202 3980....number. Usually I don't pick these up but did on this occasion. It was a Scottish sounding lady so I thought 'oh great, I read this on the forum' but the line was terrible, they couldn't hear me. I googled the number afterwards and it looked like a scam caller. I might need to call them back at this rate.

It's very funny that you advise your friends. I do this too, and negotiated for my other half the other year who never does this. They recently had the exact same experience and used my tips to get a deal they are happy with lol. I think I might have just pushed a bit too hard. Interestingly I was dealing online, but my other half did it via call and managed to get them to knock off the two months they charged £70+ which I wasn't offered. I might need to call them and explain the same example and how they have set precedent - it was also very recently.

Update..I called them and asked for a price and got £55 for mega tv, 350mb BB, Sports, Cinema, Kids, Netflix, extra box if needed and Unlimited phone calls. Pretty happy with that as was going to be more than that with sky stream.  Asking for Netflix actually reduced price unbelievably from just sports.

Took this advice from @PZ19 and got a good result. Kept same basic TV package, phone etc. Fibre upgrade to 350 (from 250) and bill reduced from £47 to £38. Not as brilliant as a new customer offer, but a saving and upgrade. I have found virgin to be very good in general so I am chuffed. The operator was lovely on the phone too.

    Hi all,

My contract is coming to an end soon. This is my package which I'm paying £81 a month for. (I have a welcome offer  discount which ends on the 28th Jan 2024 and a Sky Movies discount which ends on the 21st June 2024. In total Cr£62)

    Biggest TV bundle £143.00

    This includes

     Sky Sports HD Pack

     Sky Sports and Cinema Collection

     Maxit TV

     M350 Fibre Broadband

     Virgin TV 360 Box

     Netflix Standard

     Voicemail Free

     Weekend chatter

Sky Sports & Cinema Ultra HD

     Telephone Line Rental

When I can put my 31 days notice to cancel, what price should I be aiming for as I obviously don't want to be paying £143.

    Thanks & Merry Christmas.

    Dave

    This one is new.

My contract was ending in January, a week ago I went and haggled its renewal with the chat team for the same price.  Then I realised I had received an email back in September letting me know of the change in legal terms where the upcoming April RPI increase becomes mandatory (part of the contract), so my price was going to go up again in a few months.  I went back to the chat team asking them to either remove any future increases, or decrease my contract price by a few pounds so that in April it goes back to roughly the same amount.

The lady started arguing with me that there was nothing she could do now and I just needed to wait for my April increase to arrive, then challenge it under my right to cancel (RTC).  I told her the email I received in September said black on white that the new legal terms remove the RTC, pointing out the sentence "As this annual price increase is provided for in your terms, there’s no right to cancel because of it from April 2024".

She asked me to confirm the email address that sent me the notification.  I told her it was email at em.virginmedia.com to which she said this email had not originated from Virgin Media and suggested I was as victim of phishing and I should change my password.  I then provided her the link to the online version of the email hosted on the same em.virginmedia.com website, clearly owned by them.  At this point I just asked her to process my cancellation as it was getting ridiculous.

Quite baffled as obviously the removal of RTC was announced to all of their customers as discussed here previously.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

IME the call centre staff often have little idea what they're talking about.
I had one assure me there would be no annual increase during the new 18 month contract proposed. Later, another staff member assured me the first person was wrong!
It was only after giving my notice and getting the call from retentions that I seemed to get someone who knew what he was talking about and gave me an acceptable deal, with the annual increase!

  • I'm on M250 broadband and phone only.  Currently paying £18 after discounts.  Contract ends in early Feb.

Wondering what deals others with M250 have got.  If I can keep that price I'd be happy.  Do they normally send a renew letter with offers or do I need to contact them first?
