My bill has just gone up to £73pm, just got off the phone now and got this new customer package for £33.50 (it's the same package as I have now). The call took 1hr and 2 mins and I had to speak to two different depts, wasn't until I got to disconnections that they really started to play ball, previously the best they said that they could do was £54pm. Really chuffed that I am now paying £11pm less than I was on the old deal.

If you had put in your cancellationyou would have got a retentions call back for even cheaper than that, but like you say you are happy that you are paying less than before so it’s definitely a win.  The £54 that they quoted for that is daylight robbery.
Will bear that in mind for next time, I may have got carried away with sheer joy at the thought of only paying £33.50 for a year and a half. I celebrated by turning the heating on!
    Hahaha don’t go overboard…

Quick query from the experts on here - I haggled for a new deal - and have been put on the Volt Package. (total £87)
I've been told I'm getting a new additional mini 360 box - but I don't really want Virgin in another room - is it ok for me to refuse this - they've already arranged an engineer visit - is it just a case of phoning 150 and cancelling? (Whatsapp and Live Chat are really not helping) - secondly, and I'm sure this is an age old query - I'm now paying £25 per month for a sim card with unlimited everything - am I able to downgrade to a cheaper Sim card without jeopardising the deal for the whole package? I know the t&c might suggest that you can't but just wondered what actual people on here had found. Thanks

If you're still in the cooling off period (14 days?) Then you should be able to cancel without charge. If not, you're probably stuck with whatever you've agreed to.
Hi thanks for the reply. However, I think my question was misinterpreted (or not written very well by me).
It's also got a little bit "confusing" for me in terms of the contracts etc.
    So, I'm a current customer - and I had a current package paying for 500MB BB/Anytime Phone/Maxit TV + Sky Sports SD.
I contacted them on Black Friday and tried to wangle an existing customer special offer - even though my current contract still had 6+ months to run.
I was offered and accepted the move to total Volt Package (including a new o2 simcard) - but without realising it came with multi-room - and an additional box. The Whatsapp sales person didn't seem to include the extra box in his copy/paste of info to me. So the only "issue" I have is that we only have one TV in the house - so no need for an extra box - so I was merely asking whether it was ok to be on the Ultimate Volt package and "not have the second box" but have everything else (including the wifi pods). When my deal was "done", I was told that an engineer would be booked to "set me up" and that there was currently a delay of almost four weeks for an engineer - so I'm on my current deal until that date - but presumably if the engineer is only coming to fit the second box and I have no requirement for that - then surely any other upgrades can happen remotely (adding Sky Cinema and Netflix for example)?
    In addition, the o2 part of the deal appears to have started immediately - got an instant email from o2 telling me my first bill was available to view in my account! - my sim card has only just arrived today - despite my "contract with o2 starting on 26th Nov";
As a result of the o2 link up, I have received my BB boost - but in reality, hard to tell the difference between 500mb and 1GB given I haven't done too much in the way of "excessive use" as yet. But, in terms of billing, I'm guessing for four weeks, I'm effectively paying an additional £25 for the o2 sim, before seeing the "reduction in the Virgin part" from the date after the engineer visit - but I guess in 18 months time, I can legitimately end my o2 contract - and then pay the lower bit on Virgin for the last four weeks - just all feels a bit messy having two separate contract dates!!
And then my final question - originally - was about whether there was any comeback on the Virgin contract/services/price paid to Virgin if I was able to "downgrade" my 250MB o2 simcard (£25) to something cheaper - so I'd still have an o2 sim card - so still get the Volt benefits - but not what "Virgin" sold me originally - and whether I can do that "after the cooling off period" - or whether I can or need to do it within? Sorry - a little bit complicated. Thanks in advance.
And this thread is really super helpful in understanding what can/should be achieved by existing customers on renewal.
    Thanks

You can cancel the o2 immediately within the 14 day cooling off period which started 26th Nov

For reference, I managed to get 1Gb + weekend calls (or whatever the basic phone package is) for £27 per month. This is Volted so I in theory, this is the price being paid for 500Mb. I had to fully cancel to get this after spending an age on WhatsApp and not really getting anywhere. Was called back within 2 days of cancelling but, from memory, the best they could do for this was £32. Said I'd think about it and ended the call. Was then called again a few days later and was told they could do the 1Gb for the same price as the 500Mb at £27. So, with all the Volted stuff, that maybe means the M350 service was £27? I don't know!

Anyway, I could have maybe got another couple of quid off this if I had really tried, but I thought this offer was very reasonable so took it up. But definitely, don't necessarily accept the first offer made as the chances are you will get a follow up one at a better price.

Our contract expires February 1st so I'll be commencing negotiations in a few weeks. We currently have their ultimate Oomph package - 2 boxes with all channels inc sky sports, movies, bt sports and kids channels, a sim only card and their fibre broadband all for £79 per month. I very much doubt ill get anywhere near this but interested to see how far i can push them.

I'll definitely report back on how i get on !

You very well might, but you will have to put your cancellation in.
  • I was offered £23 for 250MB/s Broadband, Streambox and VOLT package with 6GB sim. I accepted it of course and received the correct contract £17 for Virginmedia, £6 for O2.
VOLT package - O2 have doubled the data to 12GB for £6 pm and I chose Disney+ as my free extra (expires after 3 months).

If my WiFi drops below 20 mbps I can get boosters under the VOLT deal from VM.

If you can swap your sim to O2 it's worth asking when you negotiate as retention can offer the best deals through VOLT

A little  known fact that people don’t realise about Virgin Media is you can put your notice in 60 days early if you phone them
I always do it this early and explain its because I want a overlap of a week or 2 when I switch to another provider as we don’t use the phone line we have with virgin.

it’s a minimum of 30 days but virgins system allow up to a maximum of 60 days
  • I would like your opinion. I have m250 maxit tv with bt sport and weekend phone and 2 boxes, currently pay £59 which finishes end of feb. I would like to add a SIM card. Currently offering £70 per month for volt same as I have really with a 6gb sim. What do you think?
