I called VM today, as yesterday a letter arrived saying my monthly DD was going up 3.49 per month, on top of my normal monthly payment of 19.99 per month.
So the monthly bill was going to be 23.48.
For that I get free phone, and 50 Meg fibre broard band.

So on the phone, she agrees to give me a 3.00 monthly credit for 6 months, even though my contract ends in 5 months.

    Win, win,

Does that £19.99 a month include line rental ?
  • I love getting the letters of VM about price hikes, as it puts the ball back in my court...

Im paying £60 per month for 2x tivo, XL TV, M phone, 100mb broadband.. I did drop from 150mb, but was originally paying £78 a month. 100mb is more than enough...

Im so tempted to switch to sky as im simply fed up with the tivo sluggishness... seems the best deals are available at sky counters rather than online, so will see what they can offer.

Hardly required...in the 2.5 years I had Virgin I had 3 opportunities to cancel mid contract due to price rises...so I wouldn't worry too much haha!

Seriously though my last renewal as on a 6 month minimum, 12 month deal with 18months of discounts added.

Say youll commit for as long as possible (to get the best price), as they put the price up at least once a year, so youve always got that as a getout!
  • Hey guys,

When people describe a call back from retentions, are they getting these calls on the VM land line or another phone number? I ask because I don't even have a phone plugged in to my land line port! How can I make sure VM had my mobile number?

Simply phone them up and tell them to update your primary contact number to be your mobile :)
  • My current deal is –

Line Rental Saver, Landline 24 hrs, Broadband 50 mb.

Paying £17.99 monthly but due to go up £3.49 from November. (£17.99 excludes LRS)

How can I save from VM? I’ve been with them for years!

    Thanks

Best thing to do is normally phone up and say you wish to cancel as its getting too expensive. They will usually try and persuade you to take a new deal but to get the best deal you need to wait for a call back from the retentions team. Also be prepared so find out what the alternatives are and what they cost. Obviously you need to take into account that you have paid the LRS up front. depending on how long you have to go it might make more sense to wait until the end of your actual contract and then negotiate as if you leave you wont get any of the LRS refunded.

I've just tried my annual I'm leaving due to the price rise and firstly thought I'd got a good deal but when I asked the CS rep to clarify about line rental he said that it wasn't included one the LRS expired (Virgin paid my LRS last year). So I've put in my cancellation and will wait for a call back from the retention team. I've always managed to get a good deal in the past but normally at contract end. Will see what happens.....

Finally tackled Virgin today concerning the increase in our broadband which takes effect from next month. Presently we are paying £27.25 a month for 50mb broadband. It was due to go up to £30.24.

After negotiations we are now going to pay £24.25 for 6 months. £28.25 for the rest of the 18 month contract.

If the price goes up we will renegotiate another deal or end the contract.

Not much money gained but enough to keep hubby happy.

Guys just to let you know, there is no guarantee at present that you will get a call back from Customer Relations (Retentions) if you put your 30 days notice on your account.

The reason for this, is because the inbound lines are busy and with the job cuts that are going on, outbound activity is taking a back seat at present.

Plus from the 1st October there is a lot more structure to the deals you get offered, meaning it's based on individual accounts. Meaning agents have lost more flexibility on what they can offer you. As they have to go with the deals on individual accounts, rather than what deals are running in general.

Liberty Global (people who own VM) are on a massive cost cutting drive, so please be nice to the agents, it's not there fault. People are losing there jobs!
