Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

I would be interested to see what they offer you, I have just cancelled as well ...0

SuperFibre 70
It's a 12 month contract, but with an 18 month discount.
£24 a month for the next 18 months, although I expect they'll be adding a couple of price rises in there first. I'm not too bothered about that as it will just be more opportunities to ask for something better.
As expected, the letter arrived. A quick phone call resulted in a price drop to £21 a month for the next 12 months.
Back to VIVID 50 but it's quite fast enough for me.
They did say it was a straight 12 month discount, with nothing more, but when the new contract came through it states 18 month discount again, so 6 months to look for a new deal once the contract ends.:)
This was from the 'main office', not Retentions.0 -
Currently on VIVID 200mb broadband only package for £31/month after discounts applied. This was negotiated November last year at contract renewal along with upgraded Superhub 3 router.
Put in my cancellation last week due to price increase and have received callback from retentions with the following offers:
1. Remain on same deal with no price increase
2. Downgrade to VIVID 100 for £27/month with one-off £50 credit. Effectively £23/month over 12 months.
3. Downgrade to VIVID 50 for £22/month with one-off £50 credit. Effectively £18/month over 12 months.
Not sure which one to go for. I would like to keep the 200mb as we stream a lot from Netflix/Prime, but thinking that 50mb should be able to do the job too?
Some advice would be much appreciated.

However, VM's upload speeds are not really competitive. Vivid 50 gives you 3Mbps, Vivid100 gives 6Mbps and Vivid 200 gives 11-12Mbps. If you do a lot of cloud storage, you might notice the difference, but if you predominantly download, chances are you won't.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. 50Mbps should be fine for video streaming, unless you're using lots of devices simultaneously.

Victor2,
Thanks for the response.
Yes, mostly downloading/streaming content. Do use icloud, dropbox, google drive for storing documents but not everyday. Would this be affected by the reduction in upload speed?

Hello all,
Just had my letter early this week informing me of a 5%+ plus rise on my package and I've been trying to get in touch with retentions to either come up with a new deal or cancel.
Only snag being I've tried twice today and on both times have been told 'our systems are down, we can't do anything'. If they couldn't fix it in 4 hours this morning, I'm pretty sure if I called back in an hour as advised, they'd still 'be down'. And if I were a betting man I'd put money on them still being down tomorrow - I'm sure I've read similar tales elsewhere over the summer.
Is anybody else experiencing the same issues with retentions at the moment? The cynic in me says this is simply a stalling tactic to try and put people off, or even prevent them leaving after the summer's c0ck ups. Or am I being overly cynical? And how you leave if the systems are permanently down whenever you call?

even if their systems are down they must allow you to register that you want to cancel - and they can phone you back to discuss when the systems are back up.
I'm still waiting for my letter ......0 -
Is everyone getting this price rise letter.Iv'e not had one yet.0
