To me it sounds like a hell of a lot of work to set up:eek:
I know that many people prefer their money to be very safe but the dividend return on a decent share portfolio would easily pay 5 x that.
I know energy and alcohol are 2 of the most stable and motley crew also recommend Unilever as people always need to stay clean.
Shares are a slight gamble but if you are happy to put in a few hours reading up they are more profitable and quite fun. Obviously have a good spread of companies. Even with the brexit vote as long as we had kept away from banking and aviation we made a profit.
I suppose that it you have the aptitude for setting up these bank accounts they probably run themselves in the end but do you have to keep changing when the fixed term is up?

I know mse'ers love their bank accounts but just a different view.

I wanted to buy 100 shares in P&O (well carnival) about 3/4 years ago, as if you cruise a lot it is well worth it, as you get free OBC every time you cruise, but I did not have the free cash at the time, they have over doubles now, would have been a lovely investment, I would have have had over the price of the shares back by now in dividends and OBC. *sigh*

Does it actually come up with an error message? It could just simply be very slow.

I think I have found a page that puts things fairly clearly, any questions I may be able to answer or you may have to go to the techie section on here. Have a look at this anyway.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/windows-10-upgrade-assistant-stuck-at-99/6abcd9fc-e8f3-4846-8ffb-68d091fa97fb?auth=1

Thanks for the reply Enterprise. This is one of the pages that I found.
Have left it on 99% overnight, but will give it even longer.
Computer is only about 3 years old, hunted for a Windows 7 because I heard bad things about Windows 8.

omg.. it is like trying to learn the APG again... but I got there in the end!!

I also need to know the difference between a DD and SO... so I have a long way to go! I am guessing a DD is to a company, and a SO is something you can set up as an individual to move between accounts

    :o:o:o:o

Not quite - with an SO you yourself set up a regular payment to another person/account. With a DD the person /account/company you are paying has to request the money from your bank and usually you have to fill in a form to give them permission to set the DD up. With the Tesco savings a/c you can set the DD up yourself by logging onto the tesco account and selecting 'pay money in'. It's very easy to do that.

I believe that the current accounts that pay reasonable interest do require DDs not SOS - I don't really know what difference it makes, in fact, I probably don't know what I am waffling on about !!, hopefully one of our financial wiz kids will Elsinore it all much better ( and more accurately)

Actually thinking of heading up your way sometime  last time I was there, 2013, I mainly saw the inside of Sunderland general with a broken elbow :rotfl:

Well that will serve you right for going down the town, drinking too much and trying to blend in with the locals by having a fight :p

Does anyone know why Windows 10 will only install to 99% ?
I have been trying for the last 3 days and it keeps doing the same thing.
This is from a HP Windows 7 Laptop. Have tried Googling it and seems like other people have had the same problem, but not tech savvy enough to understand what they are saying.

I think it depends on what people want, and also what interests you. The bank accounts are guaranteed, and people would know what the return would be, for say 12 months. Shares are mostly considered to be a longer term investment, and due to the price fluctuation, can make you nervous. I speak from experience, having seen the share price of something I hold, drop from £5 per share to £4....but you have to ride it out....the divi is a sweetner.
Ideally it is good to have a spread of.... both cash and shares....funds permitting of course.

Thank you for a nice reply. Yes I expect a good mix of cash and shares is best. Let's face it property isn't a certainty these days.
We have just finished sorting dad's share portfolio out. He had it to pay him a pension. Some were from the privatisation of various companies. We were sorting very old papers out and some were inherited shares.
I find the whole banking thing hard to get my head round, very hard if I am honest.
I will see if I can find a nice cash back on opening account and take it from there.
    Thanks again.
