    Morning all :)

Some very interesting discussions about investments. Thanks VT for your thoughts on shares. They have always scared me a bit, I think because of the uncertainty but very worthwhile if you get it right. We've only ever had privatisation ones (DH still has some) and the ones banks gave away, which have since been either sold or stolen back by the government. Most of our money has gone into property and it has done ok for us as it gives a mix of capital growth and some income. Our last purchase was last year but I don't think we'll be adding to it any time soon.

morning all, damp and overcast outside yet again

I've got the house to myself today - or at least until OH decides he has had enough and comes home. so I think I'd better do the To Do list in reverse order - fun stuff first and tedious cleaning/clearing later incase he decides its POETS day :D

I am finding the savings and banking discussions very informative

I've got a spare nationwide account now ready for switching so I am deciding which bank needs my custom. I've not got a Halifax reward yet - I know some people have had various discounts with their Halifax so I was wondering what sort of things people have had and was it linked to what they had spent on things previously?

Good morning all, a tad dull here, might actually get rain!
You're correct about northern house prices... they can double within a few hundred yards, and then drop again a few hundred yards the other way!

The annoying thing is that DD and her BF were half thinking about moving to Yorkshire and some of the houses were bigger than ours for about 1/6th of the price  They came to the conclusion they would rather stay down here though, jobs etc. But we could move up there and end up with a massive house, almost tempting!

also I am itching to put R85 forms in for my newer accounts and I still can't decide wether or not to.
I've been keeping an excel chart of the various amounts of interest and by my reckoning I think its highly unlikely I will hit the £1000 tax free interest level.
But nationwide are closing 2 of my savings accounts in December, the 2 accounts I first used when I started savings so there will be terminal interest with these accounts, amounts unknown - so will this take me over the limit, impossible to calculate at this stage - slightly worrying ...

But some Elite who have been playing the banking/savings game for years must know they will be over the limit so what will happen at the end of the tax year?

Thanks for the reply Enterprise. This is one of the pages that I found.
Have left it on 99% overnight, but will give it even longer.
Computer is only about 3 years old, hunted for a Windows 7 because I heard bad things about Windows 8.

It's a little bit difficult to advise further without actually seeing the computer. I tend to "play" my way around problems, have frequently managed to solve problems for myself, but that is having the physical computer in my hands.

Hopefully it will sort itself out, but probably not the end of the world if you end up sticking with Windows 7, I loved that OS. That said, Windows 10 definitely has its advantages.
