Can anyone remember the details on the free course to enable you to get an NUS card ? Was it shaw academy or something ? If so was it a free trial that needs to be cancelled ? Tia xxCherish those you have in your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & never give up.0 -

I agree. If 1 in 10 people are actually not in need/homeless but depriving the genuine from getting help then on their heads be it.
I think socks must be useful. Can't be anything worse than walking around in wet socks with no spares or anywhere to dry them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. During the interview James Bowen was asked about the best way to help homeless people - was it by donating to a charity like Shelter, giving money direct etc. His reply was that it wasn't for him to say as people should make their own decision. Then he added, almost inaudibly "but something to eat is always welcome."
Do Boots still do the O2 meal deal on a Monday? It would be the easiest thing in the world to get this and pass it on to someone who needs it more.
Could you also please repost the details of the Homeless Period charity TM. A womble or two would cover the cost of something to go in a little parcel

I and many others on here give a lot of our excess to foodbanks. Mine started with my fillers becoming own brand soups/timmed veg and fruit. Then after talking to foodbank staff when I had loads of handwash, they said ANYTHING would help including toiletries etc. My fillers now also include whatever glitch items that are suitable so U&G is welcomed. Reduced halloween sweeties and other seasonal stuff that would be treats for the children. The foodbank was over the moon when I had glitchy Easter Eggs.
Mr T has soap (25p) two toothbrushes (25p) toothpaste (25p) deo sticks (40p) pack of 5 disposable razors ( 30p) cornflakes 500g (25p), clearance shelves are a boon too. Other good thing is that most Ts have a foodbank collection point near their exit. As an additional point T add their own donation in proportion to the weight of the donations, last I looked it was just over £1.50 per kilo, so heavier the donation the better ( no bricks though)
Baba wipes are also cheap. I enquired and ladies can get hygiene items for free from health centre ( in Scotland, not sure about elsewhere)
Re homeless in the street. I walk a bit through town to get to work and have recently started making up food bags (500 in poundland) of simple things that have reasonable lifespan, Sada have peperoni alternative 4 for £1, crisps 55p for 12 pack (A & T 66p), orange juice 3 pack 40pish, chocolate bars 100g (normally bottom shelf) 30p, every so often I include small packs of hankies. The food may not be healthy but it has high calories. A bag normally contains 2 crisps, one juice, one peperami equivalent, big bar chocolate, at mo U&G and any small packs of sweeties. I also get coffee from McD and actively seek out empty cups and their stickers (just ignore the looks of some numpties) also get quite a few stickers in other ways. I then keep full loyalty cards in my pocket to hand to people on cold wet days and explain how to use them to get hot chocolate/tea/coffee etc.
I keep the bags easily accessible in my bagpack ( a couple a day). I don't hang about or make a show of it.
Some may not agree with my personal rules though:
NEVER give cash in case it is misused.
NEVER to people aggresively asking passerbys.
NEVER to anyone visibly out their face on whatever.
ALWAYS to quiet ones ( as in first aid, the quiet ones are probably the ones most in need)
NEVER ignore anyone or walk as far away from them as you can, an acknowlegement costs nothing and treats people as human.
NEVER let anyones appearance dictate how they are treated, remember a lot of homeless have mental health and physical difficulties.
Those who I give to have never asked for money, are polite and nice, I do not try to befriend anyone, just help.
A phrase that always pops into my head is " There but for the grace of god go I" (forgive any misquote) , I am a humanist, so not religious motivated.
As an added note just to show a devilish side LOL. I now consider "Chuggers" fair game. Google it if you don't know what they are.
I am quite solitary and do not appreciate approaches of others much. I came to the personal conclusion that these people who get PAID to collect for charity (confusing to an eight year old ) and collecting for some charities that may have highly paid executives, are a nuisance. I walk to and from where I want, no dilly dally for me. I also do not look at people for no more than navigation so I do not bump. In no way do I look lke I want to be approached. Soooo.... A few months ago I decided to take my personal space and time back...... Scenario.... Walking through a busy shopping centre, purpose in my stride and no expression on face and no rubber necking. Up pops one of 2 chuggers directly in my path. He holds out his hand to shake ( a recent ploy I think) and says " Good afternoon", hoping to hook me. I stop. Look at his hand. Look directly into his eyes and reply coldly and calmly " Do I know you?", answer a cautious "no". Next quick question before he can muster his thoughts " Did I look at you or wave you towards me?" a more nervous "No, but...." . His companion now looks over and moves towards us. I then reply very loudly " Then why did you approach me and annoy me?" Attempted reply " Charity..." I interrupt " I did not want approached as many people probably don't, you MAKE money tormenting people for supposed charity!", then as he and friend look very nervous I say in a fake furious voice " Do not EVER approach me again!!"
I stride off with my back to them with a huge grin on my face and notice a couple of people also smiling at me. Bad boy?? Dinnae care hehe.
Gee a long post for me again0 -

We have a long thin galley kitchen. 2 people can work in it at one time but it causes friction especially as one likes to clean and wash as she goes along and the other is a kitchen slob. OH objects to his equipment being snatched away from him to be washed and then I go on strike and flatly refuse to do anything - I cant eat my dinner if I know there is a bomb site waiting for me in the kitchen.
Yesterday though OH was making an effort and the kitchen was kept reasonable and peace and harmony reigned
I am the 'good cook/kitchen slob' my dearly beloved insists that I have a dish full of hot soapy water before I start cooking... result.. a dish full of cold dirty water with pans and dishes in and then he moans because he can't fill the kettle!0 -

I am thinking about treating myself to a new vacuum sealer, will have to test mine again, but they are going to have them in Lidl next week so will have to get a wriggle on, all these meat bargains:)
I've often thought of getting one, mainly to increase freezer space. Do you think they are worth it, please?0 -
