Maralum here's my best advice (for what its worth ) on re-potty training for school aged children.
All the advice is dependant on a well thriving child- any concerns then GP.
1. Is he stool withholding (as he's constipated and its painful to poo) and then getting overflow- if he is then you'll probalby need to see GP for some help but everything below still applies.- or is he just getting forgetful and not minding where he performs?
2. was he ever reliably clean and dry in the day? I f not , don't worry it will just take longer!!
3. Need to make sure he's not constipated at all- will he eat shreddies for breakfast (best bet for small ones with poo problems).dirnk some orange and eat some fruit and veg? if his stool are hard and painful despite this need to see GP for some softening medicine
4. Does he sit on the toilet after meals/when asked for 5-10 minutes? If not start here.
he needs to sit for 5-10 minutes on the toilet after every meal and after his milk at night/morning (if he doesn't have this in his bed.)
Don't worry about the poos- sitting is essential. Bribe him to do this with some immediate reward- he's too young for a star chart- delayed reward is no reward at that age. Try colourful stickers(world cup football stickers did the trick for my nephew), read him a story as he sit or something. Reward him just for sitting without making a fuss. This is very dull and requires committment from you. Maintain cool calm and collect exterior despite the accidents!!
If you get him sitting regularly and eating shreddies for breakfast and drinking plenty it will probable sort itself out - but it takes a couple of months- he's got to get into good habit and train his body to recognize the sensation that means he must go to the loo.
so there you go - make sure not withholding as constipated ,then shreddies, bribery , rigid routine, committment - its worked for my DS and my sisters DS(aged 6 and hopeless)!
I expect others have helpful insights as well. the things we mothers have to do!!0 -

Evening.
Had a semi-productive day even though Charlie has been running a temp and teething, and i have felt very sick every couple of hours.- food shop done
- 3x shirts and 1x skirt returned for a refund
- a couple of new maternity bits bought
- maternity clothes out of loft and sorted into what i will wear and what i won't
- shirts (inc mat shirts) washed for work - 2 loads, now hung on airers
- towels washed yesterday were dried on washing line
- got more baby wipes and a couple of jars of food for the cupboard
- DH has fixed the edge of the drive which was dug up for building our new wall a few weeks ago
- DH sanded and varnished our outside table so that it can be put away for the winter
- some book tokens DH got spent - and because it was 3 books for price of 2 at Smiths and we didn't want a 3rd, we picked up an early xmas pressie too!
- I've just done the online banking to pay a bill and move 350 into savings. Start small but the savings have got to start.
- realised we need to replace our garage door as the wood has all warped and it would be far to easy to break into
lil-me what will be will be, and if you don't get it, there will be a good reason which you may never know, but just have faith.
serena pleased things are a bit brighter, but still keeping you in my thoughts.0 -
Thanks all. We rent now via LA and they want a reference from them anyway. The rental isn't fully managed just on what they call 'tenant finding only' the landlady lives down south somewhere so don't know how easy it would be to contact her directly. Estate agents refused to give me her contact details last week. Just going to call on Monday and ask them outright, no point us wasting time waiting for references to come through with them holding our deposit if we can't go ahead anyway.
Done a bit more sorting with the boys, mainly things to go to my best friends, she hasn't even had the baby yet (5 weeks left) but is getting a lot of what the boys no longer use like the happy street/little people stuff. I did ask her first but she's realistic and said she has the space and baby will be a toddler needing toys in no time. Would rather she had it than the tip. Need to find the spare trampoline too the boys got 2 small ones last Xmas so unused one there for her aswell.
I think I may aswell keep decluttering and sorting, it needs doing anyway, may aswell try to stay motivated. However now it is time for an hours study time before bed.One day I might be more organised...........

Hi everyone
Just a quick post to say thanks for your messages of congratulations - I haven't read the thread properly yet, maybe will do that tomorrow! And thanks to lil_me for posting our news, especially with everything else you have going on at the moment ....
So now I have to refer to DS, DD1 and DD2 - how bizarre! We already have a Connor and an Erin, and we named DD2 Kerry. (I'm from NIreland and wanted Irish names but no mad spellings!). She is beautiful and a very easy contented baby so far anyway!
Brief birth story for those who are interested -
My waters broke at 39 weeks in the night, but no contractions or anything - exactly like with Erin. We dropped the kids off at school and a friends house then went into hopsital. Because of the speed of my other labours (5 and 2 1/2 hours respectively) we decided to stay put in case things kicked off quickly, and besides the kids were taken care of and exepcting us to come home with a baby! Nothing much happened til later that afternoon. I had a few mild ocntractions, but nothing majpr. At 5.30pm it did indeed all kick off - at the cash point LOL, via several corkers of contractions we went back to the room we'd been allowed to use between our wanderings round the hopsital, and I was ranting and shouting for gas and air and someone to come etc etc . At 6.30 they decided to move me to a delivery room via a wheelchair WITH NO GAS AND AIR  . 6 minutes later Kerry flew out :T At the time very scary but looking back I'm glad it was over so quickly!
Everything is going well so far, she is doing great at nights, I am getting some sleep. House isn't a total disaster, washing basket isn't overflowing and I even made a curry for tea tonight. Hubby is being a star and as we are mix feeding he can help with the last feed of the night so I can get to bed earlier.
Which is where I am off to now.
I will check back now and again to keep up on the gossip but not planning on flying for a few weeks.
Hope everyone is well, hope all the littlies are enjoying school and hugs to anyone who needs and/or wants one.

So good to see you back Jill, was thrilled to be able to pass on the good news but tempted all the same to leave them all in suspense! :rotfl: there was so much refreshing of pages going on I thought I best before the website crashed! I left the name announcements for you, I know some prefer not to say. I am pleased to hear everything is going well, she sounds a little angel. Such a quick arrival after all that aswell, I think my best friend is praying for something similar. Wishing you and the now even bigger family every happiness, welcome to the world little KerryOne day I might be more organised...........

Great to hear you sounding so good Jill, congratuations again.
I've been working all day but DH actually managed to keep the house tidy whilst entertaining our children so that's amazing in itself. I've been to the pharmasist to see if I can give DS anything to ease his cough. I wouldn't normally bother as he's not ill with it but i'm desperate to get rid of it so he can have his op. I just want it over and done with.
I've got the uniforms ready for Monday, homework done, no washing left to do, even managed towels for work. It's so much easier now we have a separate dryer and washer so now i'm glad the combined one broke. Good things come out of everything.
Hugs to all xxJanuary budget

Lil_me,, I know I'm not in quite the same boat as you but i know how frustrating it can get with rented properties.our house is privately rented and getting v expensive.(going upto £650/month next month)the area we live in is expensive anyway(council tax is horrendous) and most landlords prefer to rent out their houses for holiday lets at rediculous prices.we haven't a hope of getting a council house as are only low banded(ie got a home) plus most of the 3 bed ones have been bought and loads of them are used as 2nd homes or holiday lets. don't want to move far away due to schools etc but think before too much longer we might have to look at that option.
sorry for my rant/moan
shirley I am jealous of your babies I want some:D
well done jill you sound so happy(i would be as well) kerry didm't want to hang around did she....don't even think about flying for ages yet.just make the most of kerry whilst she is so tiny.enjoy her.
ooh god this baby talk is making me all soppy and broody:o
I'm off for a bath and a blub about babies and how mine are all so grown up etc etcLead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
LJD1 fingers crossed your DSs cough gets better soon so the op can go ahead.
borderlakland, in our area it's student accom rather than holiday lets but probably similar fight to the one you are having. I mean why would they rent an ex council house they paid next to nothing for to a family when they can badger £250+ a week cramming 4+ students in it. Also low banded but have been on years (coming up 5 for where we want to be) and hopefully DSs letter from his psychiatrist will boost it, not too hopeful of course as I know many who's requests are ignored. As for school we're having to move away from DS2s but he's keen on leaving as he seems to be getting the backlash from the problems we're having at school, he also doesn't want to leave the house incase that idiot is there, he refused to get out of the car earlier to go in the house because he was there. Next fight is kids and dogs, so many stipulate no children, no pets etc. So rant away honey, I know exactly where you are coming from!
Well studying didn't go well, finding it completely confusing, I am considering asking for an extension on the assignment but reading the rules looks like it would take a death in the family to grant it, I've got 3 days left and done almost nothing, just can't think straight! One day I might be more organised...........
