Thanks PSL.
Had a good week, in the great outdoors and feel like I have had a break. Over way to quickly though!
Money updates
We went a bit over budget on holiday (quel surprise!) but not catastrophically so, so that's something - and as part of that spend we bought 10kilos of lovely bread making flour from a mill, so our holiday will live on in our food.
2 CC's have stopped interest and charges - Yay. Loan company has still not responded to my letters (my 2nd letter) so no idea what they are doing - they've shown me as a late payment on Noddle, but that's it. Getting a bit annoyed. Have posted on DMP thread to see what I can do - I can feel an official complaint coming on!
A tough month ahead. DH has a few days away volunteering at Countryfile Live, we've got a weekend camping with friends...and then at start of Sept DD's nursery bill will need paying (and it's going up in price). We might also go back to Dorset for a few days so I'm going to need to be VERY organised so we don't overspend.
DH is expecting a big bill to be paid this month so that should be £1K going straight into the EF.
Am also waiting on £140 of work expenses to come in - am planning to use these to service and MOT my car - service is due now, MOT not due until end Nov - but I really don't want it hitting the budget just before Christmas (especially as DH's van is due in Jan, when he also has to pay the tax man!)
We've put £550 aside towards DH's tax bill. It's due in Jan, but we need to pay a third more than usual as his tax has crept just over £1K, he has to also pay an advance payment for current year, so we've £1.9K to pay. 29% done already. I was going to transfer it, but got the fear about moving that money out of our account, so I think I will stash it in an online saver so it is out of sight, but there, at least until the EF is in place.
Woah. Sorry for rambling on - dear diary I have obviously missed you! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Welcome back, sounds like you've had a nice break. Glad you've come back and seem to be back in the money zone.
We have an mot in Dec which I always dread. Will you move it forward completely or save the money for when it's due?

Hiya,
I think I am just going to get it done. It needs a service doing anyway so is going in, and then I also know it is all Ok for the winter as I commute across the moor and need it to be tip top. It's not very money saving doing it early, but I am planning to have the car for a few years fingers crossed (we bought it secondhand last year) so think it makes sense to do it now. I know going forward I will have budgeted and set aside for it each month so paying it when it's due should not be a problem - but I still don't really trust myself with saving! Hopefully in 1 year from now I will feel differently! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi Ramble, glad you are back and enjoyed your holiday. I keep thinking about what the next 12 months will bring as well and wondering if it will be easier in 12 months time. I think it will be. I think we are learning as we go and growing all the time. Good luck with the car. Hope its not too stressful. X2017- 5 credit cards plus loan

Hi Ramble,
I have just got to the end of your diary after reading it all.
I am so glad you had a nice holiday. I do think when you are fighting the elements of life day in day out you need to go away as it really does recharge your batteries and motivates you for the next chapter of your life.
I really do hope you have some communication very soon with that loan company as it would make me restless not know what was going on with it.
It is good news that the two credit card companies have responded and that all charges have stopped. I think it makes it so much easier when there is no interest charges being added to the debt as it motivates you when you see the figures dropping. I think it is such a de-motivator if you have put a lot of time into ebaying items to pay some extra off a debt to see the interest charges wipe the hard work out.
Onwards and Upwards as they say. We will get there. Just wait until it is all paid off, what will we do with all the money then?
Take care

I think New Zealand to see one of my best mates would be on my hit list, and Canada as I have always wanted to go. Then I would need to catch up with some buddies in Guatemala and Nicaragua....and then I'd love to do the Annapurna trail in Nepal. Lovely dreams!
Good news - T3sco loan has finally responded and confirmed they accept my payment offer for the next 12 months - so finally all 3 are on the go. I'll update my signature with debt details as I finally know the latest number.
A few spends this weekend to record. Going to deep dive into YNAB now and get ourselves straight.
