    Aww thanks everyone :)

For some reason the notifications don't seem to be working. I've turned them on, but I'm not getting any emails or notifications. However this is probably me as I also struggle with the private message function.

I have logged on everyday and posted in the payment a day thread, but I've also been avoiding my diary.. I know it's ridiculous like I'm hiding from how useless I feel about paying off the debt quickly. Typically I think this is why I've got the debt in the first place. Refusal to own up to my situation.

Anyway onwards and upwards, I will keep posting everyday, please feel free to bug me if I don't come back it will really help :D

The thing with DH is that he is fully aware of the debt, but happy as he is. For all his many many good points responsible for money is not one of them. Not a single member of his family has ever owned their own house, and all have debts. So for him the situation we are in is totally fine. As far as he is concerned we can rent forever and pay off the debts in the next 15 or so years. Which is the date my SOA gave us.
He does know how I feel and does agree with me to an extent, but he's currently our sons carer and he's not been well himself. He's planning to go back to work next year when he's better and so he just thinks we should put stuff in the back burner till then. I do know that we have added to the debt by £800 this year already due to the car and then the washing machine breaking down so my big thing is to put a car and emergency fund so that we don't need to borrow more money when/if that sort of stuff goes wrong again.

DS is going to be 9 on Saturday  so today has been about starting to make his birthday cake and preparing for his day.

I put £5 into my emergency fund, haven't done any surveys but been baking all day. (I am rubbish at baking, starting to regret agreeing to make it for him!!!)

Anyway that's me for today, just wanted to say thanks for all your kind words they've really helped me and I will be back tomorrow hopefully in a brighter mood!!! :rotfl:

  • Morning,

You've made a diary and are heading in the right direction don't think your burying your head. Shame DH isn't as motivated as you. I really want to buy my own house too but have no idea when that'll be shift my debt the save a deposit seems so far away but were going in the right direction so that's all we can do.

Eugh I hate baking, I love cooking. Good luck with the cake I'm sure it'll be great and save you a fortune on one of those fancy pants ones everyone seems to buy these days. I went for a £10 supermarket one this year I can't justify spending £50 + on a cake. I should probably learn how to bake for future birthdays.

The emergency guns will really help that way you won't have to spend on cc's or get more when the sh*t hits.

    Thanks Hannah x
It's hard isn't it? I'm sure I read somewhere that the average age for buying your first house now is about 37. This will definately be me the rate I am going. I know I'm in a good place really as we've got a council house so the deposit is the discount on the house so I will only need to save for legal fees etc (and if they do want a cash deposit it will be significantly less then usual) so I shouldn't complain really. Will still need a savings fund though for house repairs etc and things the council might usually fix x

How's your pregnancy going? I will pop over to your diary later and catch up x

  • Oooh I didn't know this we rent privately I've never really thought about the benefits of renting council. Is it hard to get one? It's just so frustrating I know I spent my early 20's being a fool with money!! I'm bitter with my parents for not teaching me more about money and we will defiantly be teaching Kian along with helping him out where we can. All of my friends have been fortunate enough to receive deposit help from family and that just isn't going to happen any time soon for us.

Pregnancy going well that's enjoying my time off work to take it easy and play with DS1. X

Yeah Hun unfortunately in this area council houses now are rarer then hens teeth. (As my man would have said) I've had mine for 8 years and everyone I know who's applied after me has got private renting from a landlord with housing benefit to top up the rent. Even for us we have a two bed and my sons disabilities entitle us to a 3 bed we've had letters from the gp and the borough doctor stating that really he can't share with his sister but they can't move is as there are no 3 beds available. This is really where my panic to buy it and convert steps in. Otherwise I would probably still be living in denial land with DH!
It is worth looking into if your council does a house scheme though. Ours also does a homes for sale section on their website where they list cheaper property for borough residents (although fair warning it's pretty slow moving due to lack of houses)

Glad your pregnancy is going well x

I'm so glad you are back to posting. Debt can seem overwhelming when viewed as a whole and when you first start out you have to view it that way. The shock is so depressing but then you put your plan in place and start to see your numbers go down. It's a slow long slug but so very very worth it!

The good thing about a diary is you find so many are in the same situation and it helps to not feel alone. Support is so helpful. Keeping track of your numbers on here and updating the debt reduction can get to be addictive...in a good way!
You have a lot of other things besides debt going on and this can be a place to express your thoughts. I think putting things into written words can sometimes really be helpful.

You will get better at the cakes as you continue to save money by making them. I was awful in the beginning but did get better. Kids don't really remember the cake anyway (as my five grown children can attest to) but they do remember the love and attention. Wishing DS a wonderful Birthday and year to come!
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Wow 5!!! I can just about handle my 2!!
You are right though, it is a bit overwhelming and I do feel quite alone with it all, so it really does help knowing in not alone. Thanks x

Life does (and will continue to) have a way of disrupting my plans. Sigh. Still I do have to live and so do the kids. I will just keep moving forward one baby step at a time until it all comes together. :)

Ps my baking skills are not getting better lol! DS doesn't like cake so I'm going to make a giant Rice Krispie cake which he will love, even I can manage that... :rotfl:

I hope you get your new home with 3 bedrooms. I feel like you deserve it. Xxxx
