Airlines and special requirements

But it would be interesting to know why the OP didn't check the airline's policy *before* flying when there are lots of airlines who claim to be far more sensitive to the issue
Because this was the only airlines offering flights . They are the only ones that frequently go there.
I live in central England I can't just jump on Eurostar
Plus the adrenaline injection and inhaler would save my life as well as on board oxygen.0 -

It's too far to jump but you can catch a train to London. Most people who use Eurostar use public transport to get to St Pancras.catoutthebag wrote: »I live in central England I can't just jump on Eurostar

I think that should be fine, hope that alleviates your selfish concerns.
So a chocolate bar containing nuts is ok? If other passengers are to be expected to be considerate, then it would be helpful to understand where the real risks lie.
What if I innocently ate some peanuts in the departure lounge and left some nut residue on my water bottle and ended up sitting next to someone with a nut allergy on the plane. Presumably, each time I drank from the bottle I'd release nut particles into the air.
I just cannot see how you can make an aircraft 'nut free'. If the real danger of a nut allergy is death, then why would any sufferer take the risk?0 -
Not sure if this is a wind up but If there is that much danger to your health why not simply wear a particle filter mask??0

I'm talking more about the raw food rather than sparingly added into such sugary and calorific food stuffs
Erm, nut is nuts. Doesn't matter how much chocolate and caramel surrounds them there are still enough nuts in a Snickers to cause a reaction in a severely allergic person. 22% of a snickers bar is peanuts, hardly sparingly added!!
I'm surprised you didn't know this having such a severe allergy.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Interesting as I've heard the opposite from a colleague who's a sufferer. He does eurotunnel with car that at least keeps him in a known environment.
A Eurostar train is a bloody big thing to be controlling who takes/eats what on board.
We didn't realise they did, we enquired about allergies etc and they did an announcement without us asking, it may depend on staffs judgement etc.0 -
Trying to get my head around this thread :wall:
The way I understand it - I have a serious allergy that could threaten my health / life. I choose to go out of my regular environment and put myself in a confined space (train, bus, taxi, whatever), and expect as opposed to request that x number of fellow travellers comply with my request that they don't eat certain food. Have I understood correctly so far?
Good luck with announcements - from experience, airline passengers have a problem even understanding when they should fasten their seat belts let alone what they can eat. Fair enough if the airline decides not to serve a certain food, but what about the packet of nuts that are in someone's pocket who doesn't understand English? As for announcements on a train - :wall:
It really comes down to the wishes of the many versus the needs of the one and if it is a life threatening situation, as previously suggested - either wear a particle filter mask or don't travel out of your bubble.0
