Tiramisu, apparently, on account of being all out of swiss roll tins. :rolleyes:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Definitely! I admit I didn't rate their chances at the beginning, but I'll happily eat as much humble pie as you can make for me!!! All I need is for SA to lose tonight and that will be the gravy on it for me.0 -
:hello:
I've got a carrot cake in the oven, to be taken to work on Wednesday. I'd like to pretty it up a little. I'm going to make buttercream icing, as normal, but wondered what decoration I can make.
I'm sure I've seen carrot cakes in shops with little orange & green carrots on. What are they made of? How do I make them please?
Cheers,

They are made of marzipan, but you could make them out of readymade icing and some food colouring, or buy some ready made ones if you don't have access to marzipan or icing. I like orange zest on carrot cake, you could even make your own candied zest, for something nice and cheap and easy. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I just make wavy patterns in the cream cheese icing with a fork and sprinkle over lots of roughly chopped walnuts.0

That should be within my capabilities. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.1 -
These were the sort of carrots I was thinking of, although I don't think I could be bothered to go quite this mad:
Marzipan eh? I like marzipan, but haven't got any. I think I've got some green food colouring, but no orange.jackieglasgow wrote: »I like orange zest on carrot cake, you could even make your own candied zest, for something nice and cheap and easy.
I like the idea of this, although (somewhat predictably) I have no oranges. I suppose I could buy some of those little orange and lemon slices, but making things is better.
This cake has to be perfect. My boss will also be bringing cake to the meeting, and although it pains me to admit it, she does make a very fine coffee & walnut cake. Mine will have to be better.
I've done the hard part - the cake is out of the oven and looks perfect. It hasn't sunk, I think it's perfectly cooked, and I haven't even burnt the top, for a change. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
And having posted that picture, I think they look very artificial and a bit naff.
Tell me more about making candied peel.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
