    I received a reply from Liz Chester on 24th April to say my March bill that I had sent to OFGEM was being forwarded to the relevant policy team for their information.

    I have as as you suggested forwarded this latest bill to Liz Chester also.

    Thanks. Ofgem will be getting very fed up of me as well, as my March statement has just appeared online with a multiplier of 11 which equates to a CV of 40.0000367... My Grid download shows a CV of 39.4.

    A copy of my latest bill will be in Liz's inbox in the morning with another request that Ofgem put a stop to this farce now. I confess that I am not sure what game Iresa is playing. I don't think that they have a fix due to the limitations of their IT system.

    I have also raised another complaint against Iresa which will no doubt just be ignored as have all the others.

    Before I fall off my chair laughing the Director of Iresa was supposedly an IT Consultant before he started Iresa so he should have no excuses on that score.......honest! :D

    Resolving the CV issue is clearly way beyond his 'back of a fag packet' capabilities and it's more probable that he just can't pay or more likely won't pay the going rate for a proper IT Consultant or Software Programmer to come in to Iresa and provide the necessary fix.

    To add a bit more fuel to the fire I've also forwarded the email I originally sent to Ofgem back on 14th April to Liz Chester. (The receipt of the original email was never acknowledged by them.)

    Ofgem may get fed up of the constant stream of complaints but eventually something has to give and stir Ofgem into taking action against Iresa.

    For me personally I think it is now time to switch. The writing has been on the wall for Iresa for some considerable time and I get the feeling that it's literally only a matter of time before Ofgem are left with no choice but to deal out the final death blow in the form of a large fine for continued non-compliance. Should that happen and given Iresa's financial accounts it will no doubt end up forcing Iresa into bankruptcy.

    Iresa have had plenty of time to sort things out but I honestly can't see that there's any visible evidence of any improvement at all and if anything things have only got progressively worse as time has gone on.

    For me this situation can't be allowed to continue and therefore my decision has now been made and acted upon. I've already switched back to Zog Mercury 12 for gas and today I've just started the switch back to E.ON Saver Fixed 1 Year v9 Online for electric.

    Doing this will obviously cost a few quid more per month but at the end of the day the peace of mind this will bring will be worth every penny.

    Better the devil or devils you know than ones you don't! Once again lesson learned the hard way........well maybe until the next time I make the same mistake of trying to save a few bob. :D

    That's it, I've done it. I've started my switch over to E.ON. Will be a LOT less hassle in the long run hopefully. I can't see Iresa surviving much longer the way they are carrying on.

    I too have just switched. It is going to cost £163 p.a. more because I didn't go with the cheapest this time. I did use Trustpilot to identify those companies with better customer feedback. The Big 6 did not figure in my choice. Hopefully, this is an end to my concerns with my energy supplier.

    I have been given an estimated transfer date of 29 May. Does anyone know what will happen if Iresa goes belly up before the transfer is absolutely finalised?

    We keep being told to exercise choice and that energy transfer is simple and easy. It is far from that. Despite Government intervention and Ofgem, it is still a mess. Theresa May's latest pronouncement will not really improve matters for the British consumer. It will remain a mess!

    Are you sure about that Hengus? My own calculations show a multiplier of 11.0 to equal a CV of 38.8 (which would still be wrong). A CV of 40.something gives a multiplier of 11.3...

    Or do you mean they show a multiplier of 11, but the actual difference between the volume and energy on the bill doesn't use it (which is what they did on my previous bill but not the latest)?

    Ignore the multiplier and use the C3M to kWhs shown on your bill.

    My bill states the following:

    DESCRIPTION START READ M3 END READ M3 CONSUMPTION M3
    26-Feb-17 - 24-Mar-17 Customer own read 24656.00 24732.00 76.00
    Cost of 863.57KWh Energy (Multiplier: 11.0) at 2.37p/kWh £ 20.466

    The calculation goes like this:

    863.57kWhs = 76 x CV * 1.02264 /3.6

    CV = 863.57 * 3.6 /(76 * 1.002264)

    CV = 40.000339........

    In truth, the actual conversion for the billing period should be:

    kWhs = 76 *39.4*1.02264/3.6 (39.4 being the TRUNCATED Average CV for my Region for the billing period)

    kWhs = 850.609

    A difference of 12.96kWhs

    The Gas Supply Licence states:

    Information about amount of gas supplied

    31.4 If the licensee gives a Bill or statement of account to a Domestic Customer in which Charges for the Supply of Gas are expressed in terms of the Amount of gas supplied, that bill or statement of account must include:

    (a) an explanation of the basis on which the amount is calculated from the quantity of gas supplied; and

    (b) if, in making the calculation referred to in sub-paragraph (a), an adjustment is made in relation to a Temperature and Pressure Conversion Factor, details of that adjustment.

    This why all the other gas suppliers that I have been with in the past 3 years have a statement showing the ACTUAL CV used:

    Formula
    We converted your gas units to kWh using the
    following formula:
    Meter Units 18

    Volume Conversion Factor 1.00

    Metric Units 18

    Volume Correction x 1.02264

    Calorific Value x 39.4

    Convert to kWh / 3.6

    kWh Used 201

    (identical statements on Zog and Ovo bills)

    PS The ACTUAL multiplier that Iresa has used is 863.57/76 OR 11.3627631...

    Hengus,

    Yes, I see, that's what they did on my first bill, a multiplier of 11.0 is stated but clearly not used, 76 *11 is 836, while 863/76 is 11.3 (which of course works back to a CV of 40)

    There are two issues on the bill, the incorrect CV, and the fact the multiplier stated cannot result in the multiplied figure billed.

    It's a complete mess not helped by the Online Transactions page that shows charges various and multipliers, in my case from 11.5 to 11.2. I was with Ovo a year ago who also used online transactions but I never had to refer to them as all the detail was in the monthly Gas Statement - including the full CV calculation.

    I see that Iresa has now added some CV corrections to my Transactions Page which also have their own multipliers. These credits have then been used to amend the carry forward figure. They may be correct but they need to be shown on the bill that they relate to, otherwise there is no way of checking.

    My daughter is an FCA in one of the Big 4, I may have to ask her to audit my gas bill.

    Blimey, Iresa on Twitter at 18:55! Perhaps overtime has been authorised. Either that or they're on holiday tomorrow...
