I need help to earn and save £2000 for our son's wedding in October.

Given all the flying you have to do, it's probably a very nice price you got there. Just a shame it's outside the thousand you budgeted for in your original post.
Looking at the other figures again - car hire 500, food 800, fuel and incidentals 200, rehearsal dinner 500 - are there any of those now that could be lower?
How many days are you planning to hire the car for?
How come the rehearsal dinner's 500?
And hopefully the 800 for food is something that could turn out to be cheaper.0 -
Dave2319, We spent over a thousand on our other son's American wedding. I am thinking we will not have a rehearsal dinner. If we do it will be a simple affair where we all chip in rather than it being up to Mr P and me.
Car hire is still an uncertainty as we may be able to borrow one from DS3. Or we may have to hire. If we need one to go to Arizona we can get a larger one and share cost with others. Food should be less too. I will come up with a menu plan and price things up at Wal-Mart.

Nice to hear, Mrs P.
Presumably your family in the US fully appreciate it being expensive for everyone to fly in from all over the world and they'll just be glad you're there, so hopefully there's no pressure, and there shouldn't be from yourselves, to be treating them to fancy meals and things. You're giving them a great present by simply being there, so I think it's fair enough that everyone pays for themselves for things like eating out.0 -
Dave I meant to say we spent over a thousand on our other son's rehearsal dinner. It was a shock as I thought it was going to be a lot less. I had an fx card with the proposed cost for the meal but it came to way over that and I had to use savings we had for our two weeks in Canada after the wedding. The flowers cost $800 too. This wedding is very frugal in comparison.
Our daughter's wedding came to £1500 in total. That was dress, venue, food, drink, flowers and I blagged her a band who were playing at another venue to play a set in return for food.
This time our present should be our presence, as you say.
I have found cars for around £200-250 for a week which will seat 5 plus luggage in case we need one for our trip to Grand Canyon.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Did you refer to this guide again?

I used the Skyscanner comparison site they recommended and it came up with prices of about 160 for a 5-seater, albeit that was just random dates for a week in October.0 -
I made a sale on 3bay yesterday and have £40 to add to savings for holiday . Brizzled, car hire does seem a bit cheaper this year. Maybe it is the time of year that we are travelling. Have a great time on your holiday x
Dave I used the link to find my car hire prices. I need a larger vehicle to accommodate 5 adults, some of whom are a little on the large side. Plus all the luggage for those flying home from Arizona.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

:embarasseThank you beanie and Elizabeth.
Today I have cleared out DS1's bedroom apart from a few pictures and some books. He came back at Christmas but didn't take anything back with him to USA. I think it is time to donate and sell the rest of his stuff.
There is a local car boot sale tomorrow so Mr P has put everything that may be saleable into the car. Usually I would sort through and price things but this time they have gone as they are. Lots of cds videos, dvds, belts, books, shot glasses, and random electrical stuff. I also have boxes of black socks, all used, dozens of empty A4 files and note pads.
I will make a 'free' box of all the things that I just want rid of eg electrical wires. It usually attracts people.
There is no set cost for the boot sale. They have asked for a donation.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527
