I have an extra £100 to add to my holiday savings. Received last night from a lovely friend. I am feeling really happy :)

Yesterday I listed 10 items on 3bay. I already have a few watched so fingers crossed. I am also preparing furniture to sell on fbook.

I have a lovely reclining garden chair which has always been inside so hoping it will make £25. I also have pine chairs and table I will clean up and sell. I am really tempted to sell the furniture from our son's bedroom. We only really need the bed for visitors.

Good idea on furniture if you really think that you wont need it.

Hi, sorry I haven't popped by recently but wowsers you're doing well! Excellent news.

Agree re selling furniture in your sons room, it's decluttering and gains a few pounds in the bank.

We have been trying to Freecycle a large item..but still won't go and so reluctant to take to tip :(

You're doing really well. Keep plugging away at the survey sites too - it'll soon add up too.

    Hi PB,
I've just come across your thread and wanted to wish you good luck.
I only came back from Albuquerque on the 1st July as ds3 and his family live there.
Ds4 is over there at the moment as his partners parent/step parent are getting married.
I know you have booked your flights already to New York and want a stop over there, but if you need to go to ABQ again, look at going via Amsterdam. I went from Leeds/Bradford to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Atlanta then Atlanta to Abq. This cost me £520 (before exchange rate drop) and took exactly the same length of time as it would from Man to Abq with layover.
Ds2 went the same way apart from he flew from Man not LBA and again a massive saving.
I hope you have a wonderful time, Albuquerque is a beautiful place. I've been four times so far and plan to have shared time between Abq and the UK when I retire.

Thank you Ms Chocaholic. The cottage is rented out and actually just manages to pay its own bills. The rental income covers mortgage, rates, insurance, utilities, general wear and tear etc. We are lucky because we will have two houses and a little nest egg for our retirement, when the mortgage is paid off.

I have listed a really random lot of things on ebay. Does it really matter that it is just anything I laid eyes on today that I decided we could live without? I know there are some things that sell well on ebay but I am not running a business, I am selling 'stuff'.

Sorry - only just starting to read this thread, but you could also list FOR FREE on Gumtree and Facebook local selling groups. Means you keep all the money instead of ebay getting a percentage of your sale. Just a thought :)

not sure if you had booked the flights yet but I've just had an email from NetFlights with cheap US flight offers so may be worth a look (from £250 & the available dates appeared to be Sept so may be of use)
I also agree on the selling using gumtree which avoids fees, I've sold quite a few bits on there this year & lots people have wanted posting so have made a little extra once that gets added on.
    - Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
    - Student Loan gone
Swagbucks, Mingle, GiffGaff, Prolific, Qmee & Quidco; thank you MSE every little bit helps

Jeanmd Thank you. I am going to Albuquerque first for the wedding then to Albany New York to stay with our other son who lives out there. That was the reason I was looking at flights to New York. As it is I have flights booked now.

We go to from Manchester to Chicago then to Albuquerque.. ...Albuquerque to Albany..then fly home from JFK. The total was £700 each. We are flying on a plane that seems to have little entertainment so we are downloading some films and books to our Kindle Fires and plan to take some food with us too if allowed.

I put the flights on our credit card so am desperately trying to pay it off before I am stung with interest. I have paid off £500 and will pay off £200 on Friday. The rest of the money either hasn't arrived yet (Scottish Powerand Phone co-op) or is in credit union. I have another £35 3bay sales today, just waiting for payment.

Nicnocs thank you for reminding me about Gumtree. I will list DS2's skis and motorcycling stuff on there. I have listed some bits and pieces on our local fbook selling page and also put some clothes on the fbook page for Monsoon and similar brands. Hoping more will sell soon.

I printed up our e tickets tonight and stuck them on our kitchen notice board. Feeling quite excited. We haven't chosen seats as American airlines play dirty tricks on customers. All the seats in pairs and near to windows are unavailable unless you pay extra £90 a seat for some of them. I checked a few websites who recommended that we wait until check in and choose seats then.

We have to make some more money asap as we have only 10 weeks until we go away.
