Post office CC messed up direct debit

I took out the Post office credit card due to the 27months 0% offer, Set up a direct debit to pay the minimum. I just checked my statement and they charged me a late fee even though I set up the direct debit well before the payment was due and it is active on my bank account and on theirs. So WTH? Will I lose my 27 months deal? I don't think this was my fault and I've even paid £100 one off payment as soon as I found out. Where do you think I stand in this?
31/05/16 I rang up the post office this morning, apparently a direct debit needs one full billing cycle to be set up. Should be clearer on their terms and conditions really! So I have had my late fee refunded and it doesn't affect my promotional offer. So I thought I let others know, if you set up a direct debit make sure you do it when you open the account or pay an one off payment when you get your statement if you want to set up a direct debit later!

You need to ring them and ask them about it.
This is not unusual that the first direct debit doesn't get set and taken for the first payment. I've seen a few times.
Did you set up the DD at the time of application?
Ring them and explain it is showing as active on your bank account. Don't rant or get shirty, just ask nicely. This has been the more effective way to deal with a mishap and get the promo deal reinstated.

You aren't the first to make this mistake, but it is your mistake.
In my experience, including with the post office card, I have always received wording to the effect of "until payment by direct debit on xx date" is shown on your statement, you should make the required minimum payment by other method.
It is usually shown when setting up a direct debit online or on documents you receive with the direct debit mandate through the post. I've even seen it on the here's you card documentation.
Still posts like yours are good, to keep the message fresh.0
