The EU: IN or OUT?
Comments

Maybe I'm just living in a parallel universe, wasn't the vast majority of the campaign to leave about just that. Antagonism towards the EU, rule Britannia and a triumphant victory against the Fourth Reich.
Economic lies and fantasies aside, anyone with a memory knows the leave vote was harvested to strains of Bud Flanagan and calls for the EU and their migrants to sod off back home.
I expect going forward the focus of the leavers will shift towards trying to engineer the break up of the EU single market, with the intent that what's left of the UK can then salvage something from that.
Is it too much to ask that you actually have some respect for those who voted leave, rather than portray them in crass and offensive terms? I saw valid reasons for each choice.0 -

I think JohnRo's post was about the campaign, not the vote, and to argue that the campaign was anything other than described is to be in denial.
And of course campaigners never play the tune that they think will get feet tapping do they? They played, feet tapped, the rest is history.0 -
Is this a Freudian slip or just an attempt to shut down a few uncomfortable realities?
The UK was being successful. Over the next few years we'll have to see how this changes that and whether it continues.
indeed, the UK was reasonably successful and I am sure it will continue to be so.
It is a great shame that the EU didn't settle on a genuine free trade area and didn't do great harm to the ecomonies Greece, Italy Spain etc for a political vision which is not shared by the people0 -
The EU will not be happy that we're trying to undercut them. Is it wise to antagonise them prior to starting the trade negotiations?
And are the comments coming out of the EU about punishing the UK wise as well?
We have to do something esp as regards companies running over to ireland so I think it is a good place to start for sure.0 -

As far as I can make out the European leaders are merely reiterating what they had previously stated prior to the vote.0 -

What I saw of the campaign did not look like that at all. Many did try and portray the leave campaign in such terms, and doubtless some leave extremists did come out with that guff. To me it looked as if the remain campaign was continually portraying the leavers in such terms. A friend sent me an email, and she voted stay. She took in the remain claims without question and is clearly shocked at the 'turmoil' she sees. I just the more extreme people would calm down, but no, we get this guff about the vote being unfar, and Alastair Campbell saying it should be annulled due to dishonesty by leavers.
The irony of Campbell calling others dishonest is surely something to think about.0 -

It was pointed out numerous times by the remain camp that it would be most likely that we would need to retain free movement of people if we were to get a trade deal with the EU so it can hardly be a surprise when EU insist that that's what will happen.
The EU may soften their stance but at this point that doesn't seem to be on the cards.0 -

I know that you post things you've read, but have you noticed a move to get rid of Junckers in the last few days led by Merckel. ?
Do you not see that as being a sign that a "softening is on the cards"?

I quite agree. It could have been a great free trade area, with various agreements on extradition, police cooperation and so on, but no the politicians have to make it all about them acruing more and more power and status instead.0
